Doing alright there Gary, almost ready for the 27th

many thks, afraid i won’t be anywhere near finished for the 27th, still doing the drivers side

can see this taking me into next month , as it’s an ideal time sorting little things out whilst having things etc apart

but at least then it will be sorted out in one go

You gunna co-pilot Stuart then in his freshly fixed Tratter?

Im almost motivated to do mine, but ah fcuk I cant be bothered:D

lol, suprising as it’s all the little bits , most of the time has been taken up having the learn how to do things in this

one thing i’m dreading is replacing the short turbo hose with the silicone one , will just have to take my time and plod along

will be interesting to see what the ride will be like after , seeing the front struts are the originals

may i ask , ordered HD front drop arm kit from advanced , do i need something like a track rod splitter , or just use 2 x hammers plse , this kit also comes with the front anti roll bar bushes , will see what the old ones are like first , to see if they need changing or not and how hard

thks

Havent a clue, thats what I really like about my D3 nothing big has gone wrong/worn in the 3 years Ive had it, so as it doesnt go wrong I dont touch it apart from general servicing.

i see , so if u have to replace ur front struts u going to ask me to show u and replace one of them, with that ur say, nope sorry , can u do it again , lmao ;);):D:D

If I were to run an air bagged truck myself I'd probably change them out at between 5 and 7yrs, my reasoning being that the airbags are rubber and have a given lifespan before they perish, just like tyres, tyres should be replaced after 5yrs regardless of wear due to the tyres degrading over time, replace with genuine parts and they'll be golden and hopefully before they fail.

Interestingly, I'd be interested to know what HGV fitters say about the air suspension systems, are they an overhaul at a given service interval/age or repair/replace as they fail?

Hgv air bags run until they burst or have an obvious defect on its 8 week inspection.
Now go back 15/20 years the trailer air bags used to blow all the time.
Used to be any signs of the air bag perishing/splitting was a fail, now thats changed to even if you can see the cords so long as its structurally sound its a pass.
As a rule the air suspension does not go wrong mechanically, its normally an electrical control issue, of course you get the odd air leak but even thats rare nowadays.

Then of course theres the compressed air tanks on the trucks/trailers weirdly none have to be tested like a compressor receiver etc, many run at 10 and some 12 bar.

new front Meyle drop links and roll bar bushes turned up this morning :)

can tell the difference from these to the cheap after market ones

if only it would stop raining , lol

Good write up mate. Very interesting read.

Have just become the proud owner of a 2004 HSE so looking forward to enjoying D3 ownership.

Gonna be watching all your posts of advice and info lol

I'm not a hgv fitter but drove them for 39 years, our firm used to replace them every 3 ed year as part of mot prep,if they lasted that long without leaking. Some would go leaky after less than a year ,some would last the 3

many thks and hope it may help others in the future

hi, great to see another D3 owner on the forum, will u be doing a separate post with pics of ur disco plse , as will keep an eye out

has indeed been interesting doing this job, most of the time has been learning how to get to things , getting things apart , etc , but all good experience

after removing a good few panels for access , i’m really chuffed as the chassis is absolutely solid throughout and even better i now have the dinitrol treatment inside and out, but these chassis arnt known for rusting anyway

just waiting for a few more little bits, clips , screws, etc and can then get started again

Yes once I’ve had the chance to take some photos in the day light and do some work on it I will start a build thread.

I have a few jobs to sort on it like ashtray doesn’t shut, parking sensors not working, replace spare wheel winch which I will document on here.

As I’ll be taking the back bumper off I wondered what method you use for applying dinitrol as I’ll want to do the rear of mine with the spare wheel out of the way.

look forward to it mate in seeing ur disco , think there’s about 6 x of us now and good sharing info between us

chassis was done with a compressor, treated inside and out , both with dinitrol , then cans of dinitrol to fill in the smaller areas, where i’ve taken inner wheelarch liners out etc

also got to remove my rear bumper to fit a new PDC sensor loom, did buy the modified spare wheel winch , had a collar on it to prevent it being cut, but there is also a metal cover u need , as spare wheels get nicked, but seeing they are around £60-70 i got a bit of exterior marine ply and cut it to fit inside the spare wheel. drilled a hole in the for the winch to come through the middle of it, so cable can’t be cut and saves me some money , lol

parking sensors, ign on , put into reverse, put ur ear to the sensors and u should hear clicking if there are working ok

plse feel free to ask anything and if i know will be more than happy to help, but know others also have very good knowledge

will be good to see other work being documented and can then build more info on here

even things like where to get certain clips etc

Is it driveable enough to trundle round to horley Saturday?

afraid not , otherwise it would have been great to come over , before i looked round it has got quite a lot removed , only to get to bits

plse would u be so kind to let me know how it goes, thks
