Some work ya putting there fella, looks like its gonna be a good un...;)

Looking good

Excellent work :)

Cheers gents! :)

Will get some more done tomorrow. Today got distracted and ended up going to the auto jumble at Beaulieu.

On the plus side I did manage to pick up most of a 200tdi front end for 50 notes and have a number for a guy locally who's breaking a 200 that hopefully I can pinch the light boxes from. :D

Cheers.

I done the opposite , Put a 300 front end on my 3dr 200.

Then after my "mate" welded my wheel arch

Yea I did get a few funny looks when telling people I was converting from 300 to 200.:p

Don't know why but it just looks right on a 3 door. Plus I can add extra lights to make up for the poor performance from these things.

 that doesn't look good! So glad I'm taking the precaution of removing everything flammable around the area I'm welding and having a fire extinguisher to hand!

Crazy how the fire has melted the outer skin like that!

It's in landy heaven now :( Remove what you can & get the extinguisher ready :)

So didn't get as much done today. Rain stopped play until about 1pm this afternoon so really got barely anything done. :(

Did manage to remove the o/s quarter panel but it put up one hell of a fight!

Must of been off before because there was absolutely tons of sealant holding the bugger on.

But it did come off eventually after a lot of swearing, blood and sweat. To reveal the extent of rust.

Admittedly it isn't as bad as the passenger side so that's one bonus. Although the drivers footwell looks like Swiss cheese. :(

It has even rusted around the bolt holes for the drivers seat. Forgot to take a pic though.

Then the o/s rear footwell and sill.

No idea how this thing managed to pass an MOT last year as this is years of neglect.

So once this quarter panel, sill and footwells are done.
The list of welding/repairing is as follows.

Rear crossmember.
Boot floor.
Boot floor side skirts.
Bulkhead.
Alpine windows have rust and holes.
Both inner wings.
And part of the chassis under the boot floor needs attention.

So got my work cut out. Thats not including all the mechanical stuff that'll need/wants doing.

Both axles will be stripped and removed then rebuilt with my own design custom HD diff pans.

Engine and boxes will be removed/checked over/painted.

Going to paint and generally de rust the chassis whilst I have access when the above are removed.

The list is only getting longer.

On the plus side I did a test fit of the 200tdi front end today. Lights are just balancing in position.

So that's about it until next weekend. Unless I find some time to do things during the week.

Cheers. :)

Hello again! :)

So today's progress.

I got a little carried away. :D

On the plus side I did start welding on the box section sill by this afternoon and this is how I left it.

Loads more to do so will get straight on to it in the morning.

Will update again when I've done some more! :)

So the long weekend wasn't as productive as planned. Sunday was dedicated to fixing my 5 door and Monday o was out and about. :(

When I was out Monday however I went and picked up some lightboxes off of a 200tdi. Cut em off with an angle grinder and bought them home.

There's no chance they will go on the disco after all of the effort I'm going to to make it rot free so made up a template took a load of measurements and made these at work. ;)

Brand spanking new 200 light boxes! :D

Made out of 1.5mm mild steel then put in our turret punch to punch out all the holes and the shape. Just need to fold them on the brake press and they'll be ready to fit. :)

Cheers.

looks really good mate, been following this thread with great interest

see new chassis are over 1,500 quid ,

also seen posts where on the disco 2 of people welding a new back chassis quarter section on them

dread to think what a new or second hand chassis would cost for a d2

out of curiosity , does all the panels on a disco unbolt or are they spot welded plse, ie like the back body section I've seen online for sale , don't know if there's much difference between the d1 or d2 on the body panels

ps what make and amperage of welder are u using plse, is it a tig , mig etc
