Morning all,
Iv just been down to me mates shop to see if he could get me some MTF94 Gearbox oil, he tells me he has 'Comma gear oil SX75w-90 Semi-synthetic GL-5' which is the equivalent. Please can anybody tell me if this is ok for the box.

Changed the gearbox oil today, very disappointed, it doesn't like to go in to second gear when its cold now. Any ideas.

JamesMartin is the eggspurt, but I'm pretty sure that 75W/90 is too thick for the R380 gearbox.

Oh and "Nearest equivalent" doesn't necessarily mean "compatible with".

Ok, well first off i think i have the 'LT77' gearbox, Reverse next to 1st. So i need to get the MTF then do i?

75W/90 is deffo too thick for an LT77.

Land Rover used to recommend ATF before MTF94 was invented - lots of people still use it.

If you're feeling flush, there's always that Difflock synthetic stuff.

Thats it for an LT77 ATF-Dexron spec 2 or 3 and MTF for the R380. Gear oil is different from manual transmission-fluid MTF, gear oil is for diffs and T box.

But then if u have a LT77 box it's Dexron spec ATF

So much for mates :(

Bloody hell! 18 quid a litre. I will order that tomorrow then. Thanks

Why go to Difflock ? they are not an oil company they use Amsoil oil and market it with their own lable, just like Halfords who use Esso and Comma in theit own lable stuff.

U already have the link for Amsoil..
