Hello,
I am usually on the Series Forum, but I just aquifer a 3 door '93 Discovery 1 pre facelift that I couldn't resist when it came up for sale.

However, I have a problem with the rev counter not working since the switch from Petrol to Diesel.

Is the rev counter signal triggered the same way on both petrol and diesel or is it different?

Thanks for looking and sharing your knowledge, I am totally new to Discoveries.

Rev counter is triggered from the W terminal on the back of the alternator on the diesel, no idea about the petrol but would expect it to be similar.

Got the blue mud ball 2.0 mpi is that rare:)
It’s fun and nippy, but hard work.:(

MPI are pretty rare, pity it was converted as the MPI may go up in value as a rarety
It was in dry storage for 13 years at Joyce's Land Rover. Not sure why the MPi was taken out but it now has a correct period 200tdi and goes like a train.

Got the original decals and it's paintwork is unmarked.

Probably because the disco was a bit heavy for the 2.0mpi. The 90 is a bit lighter and can just keep the fun level up:oops:

Does that mean you don’t have the Mpi engine anymore? If you do I’d be interested in buying the engine from you.

@300bhp/ton . I was wondering what is it you are after? What did you want to do?
Our “mud ball” maybe going through some major surgery after the winter season. But I have to say Maybe cos it always depend on a lot of variables.

Many thanks, got to it today and found the White wire was floating free, connected it to W and now the tachometer workday treat.

Next job is the temperature sensor/guage. Getting 10.3v at the sensor on the engine so wondering if the dash instrument is naff.

keep the temp sender from the MPi :)

Hmm,. The MPI was pulled out about 13 years ago when Joyce's had the vehicle in storage. The correct period 200tdi went in about 6 months ago as the vehicle was being recommisioned.
I'll see if I can find an MPI sender .....

See your other thread on this subject.

MPI temp senders fit a 300tdi and work with the older landrover temp gauges. It would seem they can no longer be found :)

Going to get a 300tdi sender tomorrow as it's the same product code as the original MPI sender..

I don't think they fit a 200tdi. I could be wrong.

This is how I see it...
the mpi and 200tdi have the same resistance and work the same gauge but are different sizes/threads
the mpi and 300tdi are the same size/threads but different resistance so a 300tdi one will only work a 300tdi gauge. A mpi one will only work an older than 300tdi gauge.
The mpi 1 is no longer made.

Now....going by that a 200tdi sender should work a gauge from a MPI

All of that is not gospel :)

Hi. Looking for an Mpi engine (T Series) and hopefully the bellhousing (not sure if it is unique to the T Series or not, haven’t been able to confirm).

Wanting to fit a T Series as a petrol engine upgrade to a Series. Thanks.

@300bhp/ton.
I can gets some pics of bellhousing for you soon, it is different seems to have the normal conical bellhousing then a few parallel inches to engine. It bolts straight to the R380 box. Guessing this is to keep transfer box in same place.
The engine as you know is standard rover 200/220 series?
Not sure if any changes too flywheel/clutch/input shaft as never had it apart.
What sort of timeline are you looking at with your project?

Will get some pics for underneath that may help and pm them to you.
