I'll try the temp +ve feed as you suggest.
I have dumped the fusible links in favour of a set of fuses (photo attached).
This fault is a real head scratcher.


Thats a neat installation, fusible links are only fuses but with a high current loading, and used for feeds to various circuit areas of a fusebox were the lower rated fuses take over, anyway I expect u know that… :)

D1s pre 1993 didn’t have fusible links, so from main fuse at the battery battery straight to the fusebox, D1 post 1993 does according to my manual.
I own a 1976 car, so no fusible links, so again from the battery fuse to the fusebox of sorts fitted under the bonnet housing six fuses, plus just one relay for the headlamps, although now it has a few more relays and in-line fuses for the additional update gizmos fitted, the vehicles wiring is unchanged just as it left the factory.

I am in need of help please.
My 200tdi pre facelift has developed an earth fault (I think).
When I put an indicator on the dash warning lights start to dim in time with the indicators.

If the lights are on then all of them start to dim with the timing of the indicators.

So, removed and cleaned all the earthing points I could find - the ones on the front inner wings, the fuel tank fuel sender, checked and tested the main battery earth lead and the engine to chassis earth.

All to no avail.

I've also pulled every tail light and indicator light bulb and cleaned them. Also removed and cleaned the flasher unit contacts.

I can't find where the tail light clusters earth onto the body and I cant find where the instrument panel earth is.

Can you help please.
As the issue you have is dash lights dim in unison with the the indicator illumination then possibly that feed has a low voltage, therefore a low supply current, a look at a wiring diagram is needed, maybe there is a issue with that wiring and not at the indicator circuit.

The later 95MY D1 onwards have an earth point in each front footwell for all the local stuff, maybe your model year does also.
Alternator and battery are to this vehicle is factory spec is another thought.

The earth points for local things and the tail/sidelights/indicators seem to terminate in a number of 0290 'earth headers' that then has a thicker black wire that touches down on the body somewhere.
Next mission - find the earth header touchdown points.
 
That's ruled out then. Unplug the instrument pack and see if the voltage drops the same. Something must create that drain and everything else seems to be ruled out :confused:
 
Spent the morning giving the dash out, all to no avail.
So, back to basics, removed interior rear panels and checked cleaned the each touchdown points.
It pointed me to the lh rear light cluster stop/tail light. Pulled the holder and the earth side contact has a hole burned thru.
So, need to get a good 2nd hand cluster to change out the lot.
