After all the work ive already done on the disco it has developed a habit of over heating, the rad, fan etc is all good, ive taken the thermostat out to see if that helped, but no difference really, theres no sign of head gasket failure, any one could help would be great, its a 2 litre 95 mpi
Cheers in advance

How have you checked the rad ? Is it warm all over , uniformly ? Have you (gently!) brushed and blown it free of stuff both sides ? Have you flushed the coolant system through with a hose until it runs clean ?

I apologise for not being able to give a better answer ....I know sod all about Mpi engines ...sorry ! You might find that a very humble and cautious approach to 8in aV , Ratty or JamesMartin or someone of similar broad experience could pay off . I say cautious as they are all very , very busy....and if the info is up in the archives somewhere and you havent found it by intensive use of the "search" function (the forum one , not the google one) you may get a rocket ....;)

Thanks for the reply i will check the rad as you suggested and if still no joy i will send a couple of humble of pm's to the members you suggested
Thanks again

Faulty rad or cooling-fan maybe.

same engine more or less as rover 420 and 820, head gasket radiator or even shagged water pump impeller.

100k or so the oil way in head gasket leaks, done loads of them

Thanks for the replys chaps, had a block/head gasket test done today and all is good with that, checked the water pump by taking one of the small hoses of the top of the rad and giving the engine a rev and it squirted out faster with more revs so that seems ok, took the rad out and it is missing a fair few fins on the front but isnt leaking, could this be causing the problem?
Again thanks for the replys
