The 4.4 TDV8 was the only L322 model which didn't feature a cable operated park lock actuated by the gear lever. I believe they call it progress.

I finished work one day, it was winter, started up the RR it was in park the shot forward.... so yes I believe it, that was 7 years ago, never happened since

Remember a lad long ago who complained he never got to work on automatics, because i did them all. Foreman gave him a Triumph 2.5 Pi auto to sort. Sat there revving it's nuts off and put it in D. Did it's best to push a workbench through the garage wall. I got all the autos again after that.

Surprised it didn't just blow the sprag clutch!

It was a model 35 in those days. Very reliable if serviced on a regular basis. Maybe needed the brake bands adjusting ever so often. May get a sticky valve block now and again. Pretty easy to do if you knew what you were doing that is. If not a bloody nightmare. And you could put them in drive and bump start the car down a hill.

Two oil pumps one on the output shaft. On my Daimler, it never used first unless climbing an alp, so was effectively a 2 speed unresponsive box.

Compared to todays boxes maybe, for it's time it did the job required.

If they are in any way trying to avoid blame or the costs for full restoration of the vehicle I would be getting an independent Motor Engineer to report on the possibility of it happening to that car as they have stated.
The park interlock is meant to be able to hold it on a steep hill and the engine cannot be started in any gear. Someone was in it at the time I think ;-)

The Daimler 2.5 one had two pumps but the Jaguar 2 .4 only had 1
work that one out

Don't know about Jag 2.4 never had the box out of one. Can't see why that would be though. But the 3.8 litre definitely had two.
