hi all, just had the headgasket done on my p38, now the damn thing wont start. theres nothing there at all when turn the key just a slight click and check engine light comes on? is there anything obvious and easy to fix i should check before phoning the garage?

the message centre bit just says windows not set, the "check engine" light comes. im baffled because started fine before head gasket replaced

The fact that you are getting "Check Engine" on when you switch on the ignition tells me that there is a good chance that the "Handshake" between the becm and the engine ecu is o.k.
Have you tried entering the EKA ???
Did you do the headgaskets yourself?? Have a look around the top of the engine bay and double check all connectors are plugged in, including wiring to the alternator..if they are o.k., get underneath and check the connectors to the starter motor and have a look for any others that may be off.
Unlikely that lower connectors would have been disturbed having done the top end, but best to be sure.

sorry whats the eka? no i didnt do it myself a mechanic friend of mine did and he has checked all connections ect

Its E mergency K ey A ccess ..... you should find reference to it in yer handbook (it WILL require a Telephone Call to the local Stealership though)

ok thanks all for your help, il try EKA first thing in the morning and hopefully get her going in time for MOT, thanks again

Sounds like an earth problem. If the heads have been done check all the earth leads as all these have to come off to get the heads off. They might be only nipped not tightened.
