As mentioned I had the rear hub seal replaced, this afternoon I saw this , its not the cylinder , should I take it back or is it just residue from the job ?

Clean it up really well, after next run clean it up again - see if it's comeback next morning..................... good luck

Do you mean the inner oil seal or the hub outer gasket? The latter will not be the problem there it's the oil seal inside the hub. Nice landy. Trust your enjoying chugging around.

I recently paid as part of Mot for rear hub seal to be replaced , im assuming this was it , if this isnt it wouldnt whatever this is have come up on Mot , im assuming this is yet another problem!

Land rover series 3 88 1982 Petrol

After spending £700 getting engine rebuilt I took it in for Mot , Failed on below

front Brakes imbalanced across an axle (3.7.B.5b)
rear Brakes imbalanced across an axle Axle 2 (3.7.B.5b)

offside front Headlamp aim too high (1.8)
nearside front Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)
offside front Track rod end ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)

Ive been quoted £300 thats with VAT , seems good , im not in a position to do work myself at moment and its been off road since November! , I have purchased a hub rebuild kit for MOT centre as they said it may be hard to get ,I didnt just get plastic black seal I purchased the whole rebuild kit with gaskets and bearings £10 im assuming Ive got the right thing? any thoughts on price? As i say seems ok to me
Apart from the corrosion, the adjustments are easy and free to do if you can manage it? Price seems reasonable though for all of it.

Keep her going Neil, have had lots of issues like these of late the problem is handing over the money! Honestly there should have been an ATM machine included with my landy as part of the sale!!

Still love it though

Yet another problem?
You aint even started yet :D. Im constantly changing bits and bobs. Best thing to do is get yourself a half a day and a simple tool kit. Pull bits off and wind em back on for a few hours a week. Before you know it youll be up to your nads in oil while you change a diff or two. Not coz you need to but because it sounded good at the time. Dont ye just love the little beasties.

Yeah , I love the phrase "it'll be a five minute job , it said in the manual" or "As long as the bolts havent rusted up it will be easy"
