Hi guys my p38 just failed her MOT on i Quote " Nearside Front (both track rods end joints have play) Track rod end ball joint has excessive play [2.2.B.1F]

Any ideas what sort of price I can expect to pay to sort this out?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Im upto my eyeballs in it until after xmas and I want her back on the road to use during the holidays. Was wondering what it should cost at a reasobale garage.

I ask as when my eas air pump went down a local guy quoted me over £1500 to change it to springs and after asking on here found out that was way over priced.

Just wanted some idea of what to expect.

thanks

it's an hrs work max to change em over so about £60/70 inc parts.

Hi Baddad,

Just done both mine, took me two hours, if that which included getting the P38 onto axel stands. The rear drag link was £90.00. the front drag link was £80.00 and the track rod ends £ 10.00 each. Look carefully there is only one track rod on each drag link.
Down the road for wheel alignment £45.00. Job done for £225.00. Our local dealer £500.00 and half a day or more.

If it has failed on both N/S track rod ends he needs a drag link as the n/s end cannot be replaced, the removable TRE on the drag link is at the steering box end. Also there is only one drag link the one from the steering box (front one) is The drag link. The one that joins the hubs is the Track rod.

I would say its best to change the whole track rod incl ends and or the drag link incl the end, as the tubes (rods) have been known particularly on the series LRs to rust from the inside and when they get thin, buckle and fail. I am not sure whether this is the case with P38's but for the extra cost involved it is worthwile for peace of mind,
JV ROVERMAN.

wots wrong with putting a squirt of oil into the tubes - so it will get sloshed about as yu drive - and stop any corrosion?
