Car went in for MOT today and with a heavy heart has failed :(

2 front outrigger things (not sure if they are outriggers) the thinner metal triangle things that attach from chassis to front of sill. they are both rotten.

failed on brakes too, only working at 46% efficiency. guess i should have done something with them since it has been stood for 9 months. little annoying though as it doesnt specify if the problem is front or back etc. so guess i need a brake rebuild :(

bloody weather crap too

are you sure its not the hanbrake thats only at 46%? they usually say off or nearside front \ back brake problem

not to worry if you can weld its fine mine always fails

won't be handbrake.
brakes min limit is 50%, but er, you really want more than that.

yeah especially since i want it to tow my twin axle caravan next next :p

hoping if i strip and clean brakes and then fully bleed them this will be ok to get it through MOT. short on time to wait for all parts to arrive to replace everything and short on £££££

mine passed last week with a couple of advisories. R reg 300tdi. The mot man even asked me to take a look at underneath at how good it was.

Can you weld mate? You need to be able to to own a disco, I only paid £150 for my welder, tought myself in the conservatory (the mrs loved it) and had to do all my welding outside (which is fun).

Go back to the garage and VERY NICELY ask the MOTer to describe exactly what it failed on and what it would need to get a pass, you will probably be surprised how easy it will be to rectify with a little hard work, discos are generally easy beasts to work on.

In the past mines failed on the welding on the same bits, I fixed them and before then I had never welded before.

All the best.

Because the brakes are a split system the hand brake will only need to be 16% effiecint and they won't be able to specify if its front or rear due to not being able to put it in the brake roller as it would damage the 4x4 system so the brakes are tested on a straight bit of ground with a decelerometer that tests how well the brakes pull up

Two wheel MOT Brake testing rollers are designed for 4x4s now. A problem may or may not arise with limited slip diffs on 4 wheel drive road cars, so I'm told by my brother who has one.

Welding not the issue have done loads on it so far but thought I would get away with these as they were not bad.
Guess I'll tackle all aspects of the brakes then

Yeah there are rollers that can be used by 4x4's but all testers ive come across and worked with dont use the rollers for 4x4's

same here, they stick the machine in the passenger footwell and take it up the road.
