I wonder what people think is the best approach to take here. Having done an engine swap and been off road for a while, I took my 110 to be MOT'd at one of the big tyre and exhaust group type places (which I normaly avoid, but needed it done today) - I knew there were some things needed doing, but wanted the complete list so that I could get to work then take it back in a couple of days knowing I'd done everything required. Anyway, When I get there, the tester is an old grumpy bloke complete with cloth cap and he immediately actually has a go at me for having undersealed my chassis! Yes really, he complained that underseal (I waxoyled the chassis inside and out about a month ago) makes it hard to see things. I was surprised at his manner as you might guess, and it was pretty obvious at that point that I was in for a nitpicking MOT!
Anyway, 2 hours later he finishes, and along with the things I knew needed doing, I see he has failed also it because there is no anti roll bar, that it has a fuel leak, and the drivers door won't open from inside. Oh, and an indicator is "the wrong colour" - presumably they are not supposed to be orange any more?
Now, it's a fact that it has no anti-roll bar - my understanding is that it does not have to. My mate's hasn't and goes through the test every time as does one of my neighbours Disco. The drivers door was completely working when I left the vehicle there and had nver given any problem- I'd swear that it was working when I left it on my childs life! I also did not have a fuel leak. When I got it back home, sure enough, it's now dripping diesel from somethere around the tank (driving back it's blown all over and it's getting dark here now so I'll have to take a closer look in the morning to see why. But if you look where I had the landy parked before I went for the MOT and where I parked it in thier car park, there is no diesel on the ground. So it's plain as day that the leak has been caused there. I've been under the landy on and off for the last week, and have not had one drop of diesel. So it's clear that the door and the leak have been caused at the MOT station. I dread to think what else I'm going to find now.
My point is that if I complain, it's just my word against his, and obviously they are going to believe the tester as presumbly he'll just say I'm p****d off becuase it failed - which is not true, I expected it to fail, but not for it to get damaged. Obviously there is no point in me taking it back for the retest as it's pretty obvious he'll never pass it - I wondered if it's because it's not an nice easy modern car - I can't think of any other reason as I was as ever polite and friendly to the guys. But although I'll now have to mend the damage and go pay for a proper MOT test by someone without a strop on, there must be some way i can try and stop this guy doing this to other people. Anyone any ideas?
