If the EU want to cut out so called greenhouse gasses ( cos this is what its all about !) then all they have to do is reduce the speed limits for drivers under 25, and stop pubescent idiots in Vauxhall astras and corsas tearing around and killing people and pumping fumes into the atmosphere for no good apparent reason than to to show off what little dicks they have !!!

oooh i do feel better after that rant !!:D

Tests are every 2 years in France and have been for at least the last 11 years I have lived here, commercials like my Transit have an additional emmisions test annually. Motorbikes don't have an MOT. None of this seems to cause any real problems safety wise, just a bit less nanny state.

Shows how countries put different meanings to directives. I Spain i believe first test at three years old, every two years until seven years old, then every year after that.

so with a tow bar fail are you allowed just to whip it off?

Think it's about the structure it's fastened to. Structure must be sound. If detachable it must lock properly in position without undue play. If it is fitted with a 13 pin plug (from 2008) there will be an electrical test. If it has 7 pin plugs test will be visual. As i understand it.

so if i never tow with me motor , mot man sez thats a fil cos electrics is ****ed i say bollocks, ill take the ball off its only 2 bolts...that aint gonna get it a pass?

As far as i am aware continuity test will only be done on 13 pin sockets. There will be no continuity test of 7 pin sockets. Only a visual check. So if your towbar structure is fine and the 7 pin socket LOOKS ok can't see a problem.

surely it only becomes an issue if yer intend to use yer tow ball?I had one but never used it.

No i think if it's fitted it must meet the criteria. Think it maybe to do with mobile road blocks (caravans) parting company with the towing vehicle on occasion. I have a detachable one on mine. Have never towed anything with it yet, i don't have a bloody clue if the lights work. Suppose i'll have to take a look before next test, but not for a long time yet. Just been done.

My local MOT station told me that the condition of the towbar and structure aswell as any electrics will be testable, but intrestingly the Ministry had not signed of on it yet but that was a week ago.

Think there are still things to come next year or year after that could make the **** hit the fan. Apparently European directive that everyone is on about must only be complete by 2014. So expect more next year and year after. You could always go the the garage up your way that passed the P38 talked about on here a while ago. The bloody Titanic would pass a corrosion inspection there.

this would still be a fail !! you would have to remove the entire tow bar not just the tow ball as the mount itself is still there and that you could still tow with it:rolleyes:

Just been to take the 72 for an MOT.

Garage owner gave me a lift home, he owns 4 local garages and has been in business for about 20 years and took over from his dad before that so he knows his stuff. I did my time next door to where hes based so known him years- I am trying to say I trust his information lol

Anyway, no major change iminent- they are still sorting it out. and the 2 year MOT will only apply to new cars built after the date its introduced. it will also be 4 years from the date said new cars are built for there first mot.

so looks like those of us driving these old bangers will still be on annual mots :D

How d'ya MOT go today matey?
Got my bobtail goin in on tuesday...should be fun:doh:

it passed but bit ****ed off it cost £98 without telling me what they were doing though.

return fuel hose insecure- fair enough £5 to sort that out then but

rear body mount bolts missing????? er no you mean there is no bolt through the rear boot floor seat belt mounts erm becuase there are no rear seat belts fitted maybe

they spent and hour ****ing about putting a nut and bolt through there- ffs took all my bloody boot carpet and sides etc out and left them out too.

You just cant get the staff

they delivered it back, I paid on the phone thinking I must have missed some bolts out when rebuilding her- but no it was the seatbelt ones- some people!

most places dont do the drop off deliver back thing so I can complain too much , just makes me wonder about the IQ of mechanics sometimes!
