Had my freelander about 2 months now, after a disaster with a Mazda Tribute (Heap of Sh%^E).
The TD4 been great so far. Makes a great towing wagon. I have already had all the stick and wallet jokes, just hope they are a bit of a myth though?

I am about to get new tyres, as the current are a mismash and one is particularly worn.

Just to put my mind at ease can any one tell me if I have an incorrect set of alloys on (TD4 S; 2005 on an 05 plate)? It has 195/80/R15 96S, but when I do a search on all the tyre suppliers using the registration search they all give me the following 3 options, but no options on the size on the car already:

Front and rear: 215/65T16
Front and rear: 225/55H17
Front and rear: 235/50H18

As I would like to put 4 new tyres on is it worth looking at these larger alloys, as mine do look a bit skinny. Is there anything else I would need to change or will these sizes fit directly, without need for spacers etc?

Failing that, can I fit a wider tyre than 195 on the existing rims? have asked a few local dealers, but they think a bigger set of new allows would be better, to be honest I think they are just touting for business.

Hope this makes sense to someone, as it is confusing the hell out of me

Hi Evertonian Boy

I live out in South Africa and was told that you cannot interchange wheels between FL1's. I'm not really sure about that but I fitted 205/70/15 tyres to my rims and it looks very nice. I took it off road and never felt it touching the bodyworks.

Ta, the 205/70/15 just squueze on a 5.5J rim ok, but they lower the car a bit. 205/75/15 will be great but I can only find off road versions, not realy a good highway tyre, as most of the time my freelady is on tarmac.
Can't afford new alloys so looks like I'll have to stick to these baby 195/80/15 for now.

My sparewheel is still a 195/80/15. In height its exactly the size of the 205/70/15. The mini vans here now comes standard with 205/70/15 which makes it a very popular on-road tyre and readily available.

Hi all,
Thanks, but I ended up with the 195/80/15.
Got a deal on Michlein Synchrone 4x4, Set of 4 All in for £275. (Some national dealers quoted more for budget tyres, and one quoted £106 EACH for the Michleins)

Been on about 2 weeks now, they are a good tyre, quiet too.

(PS used Costco they had a 20% off 4 offer on at time, as well as being cheapest to start with)
