P38 4.6 GEMS has developed a metal clunking/tinny noise when accelerating (soft or hard acceleration). Can be loud and can sometimes not happen at all but my mechanic has given up looking for it.

The noise seems to be coming from the central front end area. Any ideas guys?? Cheers.

Might be as simple as a loose exhaust clamp ,,,, tinny sound,, or the exhaust hitting the body or cross member .Heat shields is another rattle point :(.....RR.

We did look at the heat shields and the exhaust...so...flex plate looks like the winner, I do have a gearbox leak so this all adds up. Bugger.

Remember to check UJs with one wheel from each axle off the floor

Get a rubber hammer and thump the cats with it.. or use your fist when its cold. if the inside of your cats are breaking up it will start to sound like gravel in a can.

I assume you had a listen with a mechanic's stethoscope?

Wouldn't flex plate be at rear of the engine? Got a video of the noise?
