OK...I know this has been discussed before, but I just bought a 1992 Discovery and the previous owner had dumped about 5 pounds of black silicon around the sunroof seal (must have been too lazy to do a bit of research to figure out WHY it was leaking  ). Long story short - it leaks anyway! So yesterday I pulled off all the old silicon and cleaned it up nicely, but there was a thin gasket that looks like it ran between the main, thick gasket and the metal on the roof. It also appears that the glass actually rested on that thinner gasket? The unfortunate part is that the thinner gasket is pretty badly chewed up on the bottom, so I may have to resort to filling in the space with silicon and re-inserting the thin gasket. The problem with that is that I really don't know exactly HOW it is supposed to fit in there. Surprisingly enough, it didn't leak lastnight even with slight rainfall, but I can definitely hear that it isn't sealed as tightly as it should be because the wind whistles through it when I'm on the motorway.

Does anybody have an exploded view or a photograph of how the two gaskets are supposed to fit together originally??

If anybody can help, please email me at SkyTV@altervista.org as soon as possible (looks like rain again today and tomorrow in Sicily! ).

Thanks in advance!

Hi J, as this is for a '92 Disco, does the sunroof just open by twisting a knob or is it a tilt and slide one?

In either case the only proper way to resolve the problem is with the headlining out, the sunroof cassette out and start afresh.

Not another big job...grrr

It isnt hard to remove the headlining it takes about a hour to take it all down and another 2 hours to work out how you are gunna fix it lol

Took mine out 2 weeks ago to repair the 2 plastic tubes that had snapped off.

When I did mine I took it all out cleaned up the sunroof and the area around the hole and went heavy on silicone who tried to do it before snapped the connections for the drain tubes so I used hose connectors and araldite and silicone to replace the connection for the drain tubes worked a treat as I was solving someone else's cockup and then they sold car to me lucky for them they sold it to me in the summer so I didn't find out until it rained a few weeks later
