So, I thought I would start up a new thread as I am starting to work on my d2.

Contents of Thread (you can click the below):

Fitted new Gaitors
Fitted a Snorkel
Fixed front diff oil leak and replaced front prop UJ (different thread)
My Car-puter (different thread)
Blanked the EGR (different thread)
The finished parcel shelf (click HERE for some more pics)
Another Oil Leak
More mechanical work stopping production (different thread)
Strange clicking from under middle of car (different thread)
Installed New Cup Holders
New Brass Filler Plugs
Replaced my front brake calipers

My new motto - Not all MODs are mechanical! ;)

If anyone has any spare parts lying around that they could do with getting rid of at reasonable prices please let me know as I would be interested in buying them.

Thanks and enjoy :)

Today I ordered a few "little" items for my D2, which I will fit at some point soon and I received my nanocom today so will plug that in later this evening and see what it's saying.

BUT, before I do anything I need to build a shelf for the boot, so I can store all my gear and my dog can be nice and comfortable on top.

I will start designing it this weekend and hopefully start building it next weekend.

Here's a list of things I've purchased so far:

Spot Lights
Nanocom
Raised Air Intake
New gear gaitors

Things I Need:
Diff Lock Lever
Roof Rack
Roof Lights
Rear Ladder
Interior on/off switches for extra lights
Lift Kit
AT Tyres and Modular wheels
Bull Bar / A Bar / Winch Bumper
Winch (maybe)
Roof Tent
Dog Guard

Be interested to see how you get on with the shelf.... Been thinking of something similar with the ability for a foldaway ramp under it as well as my labrador is getting on a bit now ;)

I'm not sure how to do it at the mo. I built the shelf in my hippo out of wood, but I want something thats lighter and more sturdy this time. I will post the shelf build on here when I get round to doing it.

How old is your dog?

1st MOD, just a quick 1. I have tidied up the look of the interior by replacing the gators.

I can't believe how much of a difference just replacing those 3 things has made :)

Nice, where did you get them Landyman? I need a new set for mine, cheers

Then I need to look at fitting a cruise control kit,

Cheers

I started modding my D2 last year. So far I have front winch bumper, rear metal bumper, sliders, diff guards, winch, spots and mud-terrains. Just fitted a snorkel this weekend and de-rusted and painted the chassis.

How long have you had your D2? I've had mine a year but only just changed the diff oil and transfer box oil. Seems the previous owner had never changed them judging by the colour.

My next mod is a plugin engine remap which should arrive on Thursday. I'm also thinking about fitting a light bar instead of the spots. I'm undecided on a rack, its relatively expensive and I'm worried it might be a bit top-heavy when on inclines.

Also on the list is some routine maintenance:
- ace fluid change + filter
- coolant change
- power steering fluid change
- gear box oil change
- engine oil change

I'm also undecided whether to fit central diff lock. My box is the non-diff one so I'd need to find a new one and the cable is also quite expensive. The TC works very well and if I get really stuck I use the winch.

I got them off ebay, real leather, think they were about £15.

How easy is fitting a cruise control?

Cool, have you got any pics?

I've only had mine for a few weeks.

I'm defo going to be putting a winch on mine, but I want to keep the front the same, so I'm thinking about adding an A-Bar, and hiding the winch behind the bumper.

I'll be changing all the oil in all the boxes soon, and de-rusting / painting the chassis (hopefully before winter gets here).

What is the engine remap like? how much is it?

As for roof racks, i've been looking at flatdog racks, they're made of alloy so are quite light. you could get a g4 type looking 1 off ebay for the same price, but they're steel and really heavy!

What year is yours? mine is 2002, so hoping I have the diff lock stuff in the box, i will check this weekend.

Hi LM,

Would appear from what I have read ( to fit it on a facelift , not sure about pre 2003 ) that cruise control just requires the addition of the switches ( in the steering this means cutting a whole in the rear of the steering wheel and adding a bracket, kits are available for about £100.

My D2 spends a lot of time on Motorways so it is a worthwhile change for me. there is a good write up on discovery2.co.uk

Cheers

Cruise is an easy upgrade.
On my 51 plate Disco all I needed was the 2 switches (Dash and Steering Wheel). Kit came with the bracket for the wheel and also a template to cut out the steering cowl.
Longest part of the job was waiting 15mins before unplugging the Airbag wire.
Its probably the most used switch on my Discovery.

Thanks guys, sounds relatively simple to do then.

Luckily I have cruise control in mine already and it makes motorway driving loads better! (I was just wondering if it was a big job).

Saw these earlier, but I was looking at the real leather ones , what did you get LandyMan?

How easy were they to fit? do they need to be glued etc?

Cheers

Mine is 2003 facelifted. I'll get some pics up tomorrow, the car is currently away today being professionally cleaned inside (I treat it to a proper clean once a year). The remap box arrived today so I will fit it when the car is back and let you know how it feels. After changing the diff and transfer box oils plus fitting a snorkel, the car feels much smoother, quieter and better! Can't wait to see what it will be like after fitting the remap kit and changing the oils in the engine and gearbox.

I had one of those discreet winch mounts, they're pretty good but I tore the bumper off very soon after fitting as its quite low for any offroading. I now have a steel winch bumper. I 'sold' the discreet mount to some b****** on this forum but they never paid me for it after the funds failed to clear and never replied to any of my PMs.

I got these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231664775655?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I think they look better quality than the £7 1's.

Took me about 30 mins to fit them and was very easy, the hardest part was getting the handle off the handbrake, it was stuck on good and proper! but after a lot of twisting and pulling it finally came off.

I used superglue to stick them, dry in about 10 secs.

Thanks LandyMan,

just ordered, now all I have to do is wait to get the motor home in a few weeks time. then I can psend a few hours playing with it.

Cheers
