tried (old recipe) nitromors did take a bit of but didn't get right down and I was running out of the stuff! tried a blowtorch to didn't really get anywhere though? think it must be armoured paint haha :D , is caustic not bad for alloy?

In used caustic soda on all the steelwork when I rebuilt my lightweight but was advised against using on alloy panels - something about explosions so I didn't bother. Orbital sander for the most part and angle grinder with a cup brush for the stubborn bits. THen lots of fine filler if you are bothered about appearances.

The cup type brush attachment is the one I suggest you don't use, it's a bit too aggressive on the metal surface below, I forgot to get a pic tonight of the wire attachment, I'll get one tomorrow.

It's called Sandbladting !!!
No orbital sander can get in all the nooks and crannies

There is doing a job and doing it properly
