Hi my p 38 has an air bag problem which started after i raised the rangie on my 2 post hoist to do an oil change and now it won't re level on the air bags it pumps up the bags but remains at the lowest setting have checked out the pump all ok there the lights on the dash / bottom one lit steady the selected one above it flashing

Hello and welcome to the forum:)
sounds like it is trying to rise , you say the pump is good but have you check the output
have a run through the test layed out in the Late Wammers thread and that should point you at the fault.

The light flashing at selected height with the lower one steady means it is trying to lift. Usually that means lack of air pressure either due to the compressor not making enough pressure or a leak. As the axles have dangled, I would suspect an airbag leaking especially if they are old. Time for the soapy water test.

2 post hoist not really recommended for lifting a P38 as often causes Air bag problems as you have found out. Help is at hand on here

If that were true, then going off road and taking axles to maximum articulation would also cause problems. If the lift has shown up a problem, odds on it was a problem that was already there like perished airbags.

Ok thanks guys i will check out the wammers site and get back to you Thanks

Thanks did that all good in that area what i also must do is check the pressure at the pump

Work your way through these tests.

It maybe the sensors have gone out of their usual range and picked up some dirt which is sending duff signals to the ECU. You could try moving the sensors through full range a few times and see if that helps. Otherwise diag required.

Mine is lifted via the chassis as is our lads when serviced in my garage. Never an issue with the suspension afterwards. As said, check the compressor output as it will default after a certain time if the air demand isn't met within a certain time limit.
The compressor can be lifted out of its box for the blue pipe to be disconnected but leave the electric plug connected and then start the car.
Putting your finger or thumb over the pipe connector on the pump head, you should be able to feel the air being forced past your finger. Not a massive emount but still quite strong. ;)

Could have shocks back to front and a bag has overextended and cap has shifted enough to lose air? I thought you'd hear that though.

Sorry late replying but just speaking from experience. Mate of mine and his son lifted P38 on a 2 post and it put a hard fault on suspension. Luckily they knew I had cable and software to clear fault. Was to do with sensor out of range. As you say could have been a sensor going bad even though fault did clear, so pre existing fault.

It's certainly true that dangling the axles may take the sensors to an unused part of the track where there is a build up of dirt, but as you found, clear the fault and all is well.
