I can give a listen with a long screwdriver, my train of thought was that of stretched chains due to the car starting fine with the old engine until it blew up on me.
This is what I’ve been trying to decide for all this time if it was the pump or the chain but there’s no easy way to find out hence my post to dive in with the chain.

More likely pump than chains at 160k but how many miles has the new engine done?!

Right I’ve got some nanocom readings for you lot to look at I’ve read some old threads from 2014 about FIP readings and I’m lost. I hope some of these numbers mean something to you.

all I can suss out from this is that the static timing can’t be right because it’s meant to idle at 750.

Much appreciate all the help I’m getting on here I’ve been putting it off for about a year but can’t bare to scrap a Westminster.

I think the coolant temperature is a bit low for an accurate modulation reading which is sky high should be about 50 with a coolant temperature of 95 from memory.there was a table posted showing temp to modulation .

I’ll get it up to about 95 and take another reading. From what I gather from reading up the correct settings are:-
750rpm
fuelling @ 128 on nanocom
5-6 mg/str
modulation 50% (+/- 5%)
Modulation of 95 is the max the electronics can account for chain stretch apparently, I’ll post back when I get new readings.

Fortunately i have quite a large block paved drive which makes it easier but i still put an 8x4 sheet of hard board down as it makes it so much nicer to slide a round on when under the motor and easier to mop up an oil:)
I use mechanics mat to kneel lie on and bits of old kitchen worktop to slide around on. But block paved?:eek::eek:
Luxury! (Except you get into trouble if you stain it.:(:(:()
I keep meaning to get one of those pergola type things........;)

Modulation of 95% way out

And you can get side's for the pergolas , great when the rain is horizontal. I've got the luxury of a double garage, when I can get into it, usually after an hour's clearing .:rolleyes:

My dubble garidge is,
a/ full of stuff
b/ hidden behind two Discos and a huge box trailer.
Most importantly c/ I couldn't drive my Disco into it as it is too high for the door etc!:rolleyes::(:(

Re done the readings at 95 and they still seem way out.
Im right in saying this is pointing to a slack chain?

Well mine is full of stuff some of which gets thrown into the trailer that occupies most of the space.i cover it with a plastic sheet and put it at the side of the garage. Is the Disco taller than the P38? mine fits in.next time I have a clear up I'll replace the carpet as I have two rolls taking up space on one side. But then the old carpet will have to go in the trailer to go to the tip. No wonder I never get around to doing anything feels like I'm chasing my tail.;)

Wait to see what others have got to say but adjusting pump could be a short term measure. Theres always a chance it could jump a cog

Always thought you did chase it

My garage is full of a kit car I am building, in bits although the chassis is rolling with it's engine and drive train in and the tub on. Being in bits it occupies much more space than a built car.:(
Plus worktops etc for the utility room I have yet to finish and a pile of other stuff.
And yes, my trailer also is used to store the overflow.;)
I seem to be getting worse with my old age. I seem to be collecting "projects". At the moment I have that kit, two other kit cars that need attention plus the two discos aforementioned.
The two daily drivers, Disco 2 and the wife's Pluriel, get my attention priority, obvs.
The Disco 2 is nearly 2 metres high but there is a slight downslope into the garage which doesn't help. But one of the other 2 Discos has a 2" lift. The up and over door doesn't help!
I dream of being able to rent a unit with a two post lift. Loads of room for tools, and workbenches. In order to be able to get into one of my big drawers, under my bench, I have to move my big wheeled cabinet, which is so heavy and doesn't roll at all well, even on the concrete. Welding trolley, compressor etc takes up so much room, engine hoist only folds up so far. Etc, etc. I have been chasing my tail since about 1995!!
don't help only spending half the year here. and I have no garage in our other place. Dream of building a small barn over there, I have the space and the dosh, just about. But do I have the lifetime left?:(

BigAd scribe a mark on the pump and the block were the pump mounts loosen the pipes and mounting bolts and tap the pump in towards the engine , we are talking tiny amount mm or less and re check modulation till you get it right , and it will sound like a new motor.
