As per title. I have one day to get my D2 mobile so I can get to work as Wife has gone away for the weekend with the spare car!
Its a 2000 TD5 and I was underneath doing the oil change and inspected the front prop and Holy S**t one of the UJs is so flogged I can't believe it hasn't exploded yet. Can I remove the front prop and somehow lock the centre diff and drive her as a RWD for a couple days while I get a rebuild kit for it?
My understanding is early D2's have a lockable CD while 01-02 ish don't and D2a does. I am however a numpty and haven't owned her for long so hoping someone can give me a how to without installing a lever in the cabin
 
You can manually put the diff lock on with a spanner on the shaft.

It's fiddly but do-able, take it gently while driving.

It shouldn't have any effect on TC or ABS. They both work on wheel speed at the wheel hubs, nothing to do with the drive to the front axle. If the wheels are turning and at a speed within +/- of the rear wheels then no problem.

On the subject of turning the shaft with a spanner, there's a small spigot on the top and towards the front of the transfer box. if there isn't a spigot then the internals for centre diff lock have not been fitted ...... tough!

Yes and no. If the CDL is engaged (CDL illuminated on dash) then the ABS and TC lights will illuminate when ignition is turned on and won't go out (until you unlock CDL, switch her off and re-start)
The TC and ABS will still work, but will be limited.
There is a way to stop this happening, to snip a wire (not sure which one...going into the SLABS ECU IIRC )but if you're just going it as a temporary measure then I wouldn't bother :)
 
Thanks folks, diff is locked and rebuild kit is on its way to NZ from the UK.
I still can't believe how badly collapsed the UJ on the cardan joint is! There were no unusaual clunks or groans while driving....

Yep................that will do it !

Hard to believe that it was not clunking and shaking like the devil, my mates Deefer County had a similar episode and it was clonking and vibrating like a concrete compactor.:lalala:
 
Mine looked like that no vibration at all just a clonk when going from drive to reverse or vise versa (auto box)
