Mt newly acquired 1998 110 has come with a Maxtra 13000lb winch on the front. Despite various searches I can't find anything about it. Does anyone know anything about them? Never having had or used a winch, I'm looking to find out how it works, how it should be maintained, if it's any good and safe to use considering an unknown history. Any info or links would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Learn about how to use one safely and check it is safe to use first.

I like these myself only £40 in tool station 4000kg

Ha ha, read the reviews.....it certainly seems to match its performance to its cost...:)

Looks like a std cheap as chips Chinese winch.

Take it apart , clean it , regrease it using quality grease.

Is it wire or Synthetic. If it is synthetic, then run it out , clean it, let it dry and rewind it while setting the first row on the drum under light load.

Has it got an isolator? if not then fit one. the remotes are worth fitting.

Cheers

As soon as you envisage your wire rope snapping and cleaving an innocent bystander in to 2 pieces, you will buy some synthetic rope!

20201112_142653.jpg This is the winch - can't find out anything about it, never used a winch so don't really want to go fiddling without an idea of what I'm doing. There is a remote control that plugs into the side. It probably needs a good clean/service before use unless the consensus is it looks too risky.

This is a really good 3 piece you tube vid of working on a winch.

Then read and watch everything you can on using a winch. Find others who you trust to help you when you get a chance to try it out for fun before you really need it.
Fit an isolator as already said.

Used badly they are dangerous bits of kit. Still reckon you should change to synthetic.

Cheers

Old school thread bump but saves making another

I’ve picked one of these maxtra winch’s up for a tenner.

I have zero winch experience so just wondered how I’d go about testing if it works? It’s completely removed and just sat on the floor

are the wires done correctly? I have a small red and small black wire which I’m unsure about.

also how to do link this all up to the battery? Where do I put cables from battery on the winch side of things
