Surely this relies on how tall you are ? If you like having areduced view in front? Does yoir bonnet have the support bars fitted?

What size are you thinking?

I'm 6'3, bonnet has supports and chequer plate.

My currents are 265/75 Dakar but considering a less aggressive AT
 
sit your spare on there see what you think rachet it down if you want to drive it a bit to get a feel

I guess on the weight front could always get some additional bonet catches to help support the bonet
 
Well I currently have it on the roof rack so bonnet may well be a blessing haha.
Roof rack is coming off though hence the bonnet mounting.

No room inside the 90 and too heavy for the back door
 
On the bonnet is fine as long as you don't need under the bonnet often - I wouldn't spend any time under a raised bonnet with a wheel attached - not without an extra prop. If it fell it might not kill you outright, but you'll be having a bad day.
 
Po of my landy got rid of the standard folding prop and added a stronger solid one from the support strut.

I'll get some pics later but I reckon it should be strong enough

No good to me then....LOL. I like getting under my bonnet and having got the scar from the bonnet catch trying to punch its way thru my skull.
I would wonder how much of an impact it would be to forward vision, once you have fitted the carrier and the tyre, a big difference between 275/75 and a 7.5 in width.

750x16's fit well on the bonnet, and my current Landy is the first I've had that hasn't had the spare mounted on there.
 
TBH I didn't find it too obtrusive in normal driving, you can still see the drivers wing fully.
 
I tried on two occasions to get used to having the spare mounted on the bonnet. It lasted about two weeks and thee weeks, but I didn't like it. When driving down narrow roads/lanes you can't see the curbside so well.. Lifting the bonnet I didn't find a problem, it was just the restricted view I didn't like. My spare is mounted on the back door where it has been for the last 27 years. No problem.
 
Test's by a 4x4 mag in the 80's showed that spare on the bonnet improved the aerodynamics enough to increase the test vehicles [ series 3 two and a quarter petrol ] top speed by 4 mph!
 
I have a military 110 that has the spare 750x16 mounted on the bonnet. When I first got the 110 it had no spare and when I did put a spare on the bonnet I found that it blocked my view of the nearside front corner.
Initially I found this irritating, but I don't notice it now, however I wouldn't want anything bigger than a 750 on the bonnet.
As others have said, the weight of a 750 makes the bonnet a pain to open and you do need the solid bonnet stay rather than the folding stay.
Another problem is that the bonnet gets crushed if you are in the habit of dropping it shut.
