Hi there,

Does anybody out there know if the MAF on a P38 2.5DSE might cause the following?

  1. Sluggish acceleration when pulling away untill the revs reach 2000?
  2. Rather high MPG (higher than normal)?
If so, does it mean a new one is needed or is there a way to fix it?

Phil:confused:

Un plug MAF sensor and if it goes like stink it usually means the sensor is faulty or. Plug into rovacom or test book and it will tell you for def if its the MAF sensor. Usually first sign is really sluggish as you say.
75 plus vat from land rover.
That was the cheapest i could find from dealer.

Thanks P38RR

Will try that in the morning.

That is once I've managed to remove our first offending flat tyre.

For the last hour I've been trying to release the darn nuts on it. For some stupid reason, over here in the heat, the darn things expand just enough to render the tyre wrench that comes with the P38 about as useful as a chocolate fire-guard in the Sahara!

This is the proverbial straw on the camel's back. Going to swap her for a Disco TD5 ASAP.

Anyway, once again thanks for the info.

All the best,

One soon to be EX RR owner new Disco Owner,

Phil

Hi P38RR

Well that idea of your's worked:D It went like a bat out of hell (compared to b4) when I put my foot down + the mpg drop a good bit too.

Now here's a question... Does one need to have the offending bit connected?

I mean what could it do to the engine if it aint connected?

Phil

it does need to be connected, its there to measure to air flow and so alter fuelling to suit engine speed/load/altitude etc. if its auto the gearbox will play up too if you leave it unplugged

I am no implying to leave it unplugged but just to unplug it and drive it a bit too see if it makes a difference, then you know for sure with out going to a dealer with a computer.

Mass Air Flow sensor is a hot wire system , so when cold air passes over wire thus altering resistance, in turn altering fueling for engine.

If ECU sees a fault it can often go into get home mode and just return a default value. Which means a severe lack in power.
