Can anyone help? I am trying to find out what the realistic MPG figures for a 2.5 DSE in both manual and automatic.
Cheers
Cheers
A full tank to the brim and red light comming on auto 420-30
And the manuel 470- 90 we have both types
Assuming you are using 85 litres from brim to red light that's about 25mpg on the manual and 22mpg on the auto, about right for the UK. I'm a bit surprised at 3 mpg difference though.
I have both the manual and auto the manual has a tuning box and 16" wheels getting around 28-30 mpg the auto has 18" wheels and no tuning box only getting 19-21 mpg
I assume that your figures are from the dash computer? If so they are an illusion, the pooter does not know that the power box is stuffing more fuel in for a given throttle opening.I haven't had mine that long but i noticed a slight difference after fitting a PSI Powerbox. Was about 21/22 before and is now about 24/25 and is obviously more responsive also.

On mine with the power box the dash showed 28mpg but the brim to brim was 24/25mpg, now the power box has gone, the dash shows 24mpg and the brim to brim is 24mpg.
They don't need it as the pooter has no idea about the extra fuel going in.ound:My lad who has a Navana that is doing 19 MPG, said he was going to get a tuning chip off eBay that gave 20% more torque, 20 BHP and 15% better fuel consumption. You can imagine my reaction. When will people learn that without any other modification the ONLY way to get more power and torque is to inject more fuel. I am convinced the power chips have a trip computer massaging programme in them.

:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughiHe said the boxes come in at several prices from £69.00 to £400.00 he asked what's the difference. I told him the £400.00 ones are for people who are more gullible than those who buy the £69.00 ones.
What is the old saying? No smoke, no poke?
I remember when I used to turn up the wick on my dervs so they'd smoke like a Bingo player. I realised quite quickly that at a certain point all I was doing was dumping fuel. There was some additional power to be had from running super rich as the extra compression caused by unburnt fuel helped the mix, but for the attention the smoke gets you and the increased fuel bills, I was able to tweak it so that only a minor amount of smoke came out the back (I wanted none but it was proving hard to achieve) while pushing out the most POWER!
Rolling coal is more a visual thing than actual power (how many "performance" mods could you say that about?). I suspect if I dyno'd the thing I'd probably get less than a 1BHP drop in power if any. But I'd get so much **** from the other guys because their dervs would leave great plooms of soot.
It makes you laugh how quickly some people buy into tuning myths because it is spouted out as gospel. I've seen electric fans which are supposed to give x% increase in power and economy because the fans act as a turbo or some other BS. The boxes even come with a graph which prove they work and people buy them hand over fist. Yet in reality you're losing power because they suck on the battery which means the alternator has to work harder to top it up.
True...this is why Datateks Fan Mod to use the A/C fans to aid cooling instead of the engine fan reduces consumption cos if I remember rightly he uses a temp switch so the fans only run when they are needed...and not constantly! What is the old saying? No smoke, no poke?

If you want more BHP from your diesel or more torque then get a tuning box, but don't buy one i if you want fuel economy to go with it, it's just not possible. Spend the money getting the pump timed and the injectors serviced if you want to get better MPG.
