I learnt in a G reg Def 90, no matter how much I crashed it it didn’t mind

You can convert to solid flywheel, Data is a fan of this. Dual mass supposed to smooth out the transmission so may be bit harsher but will work fine.

Needs a special clutch assembly to absorb transmission shocks. Did my Transit a long time ago after the DMF broke up and jammed the starter.

Get you, showing off , with a modern vehicle to learn in :p :D
I had a key+screwdriver to start it. Had to put key in then put screwdriver into the wiring hanging out the dash to start it. Was a brilliant vehicle, if not the best I’ve had off-road. Sadly they did not make chassis to last and it died at 15 worked to death.
Was 5 years older than my P38 - which is still rolling (once literally) ;)
chassis on the 24.9 year old -

What you think a solid flywheel would be like on a P38 D transmission?

After talking to James on here and a couple of old mechanics I have absolute respect for I went DMF when I replaced mine. The springs are a hell of a lot longer and they absorb vibration all the time of all sorts of frequencies. There's a reason they went to all that expense.

I wouldnt go down the dual to solid conversion..
I did this in my Volvo v50 2.0d, I put a solid flywheel in it and it is slowly chewing its way through the gearbox and vibrates like a twit!!!! It has been tuned also and that certainly doesn't help.....

Did you also fit a special clutch to compensate? Only notice it on the Transit if it's labored in too high a gear.

I did data, it was a kit with a self-adjusting clutch casing and spring loaded plate like the traditional plates used to be. The engine is knocked up a touch in the bhp department. It takes off at around 1800rpm like most modern vari-vane turbo diesels and then takes off again at 3000rpm and pulls like a train. There aren't enough gears on it.... But it chews clutches and rattles gearboxes.... Plus... It'll do 50 Mpg ?? Other than that it's an awful car:eek:
