Hi all,

Well I have bitten the bullet and booked the ferry for Thursday coming back 12 days later and have planned a trip to Norway (Atlantic highway area) from St Malo in france.

I have a two sets of tyres but will go with the 255/55x16 (but also have a set of 235/70x16) but tyre pressure in the book says 28lb front and 38lb rear for both. It will only be me and my camping stuff in the car and was thinking of running the rears at a little less pressure. I can hear everyone saying do what the book says but just thought I would ask.

Thanks for any thoughts.

See how it feels. Different tyres can behave differently. I've had no issues running rears at 34 psi.

Unless the car is loaded, I run front and rear at 28/30psi on 18" rims.

I doubt you have same tyres as what was stated in manual in 1995 and technology has come long way since then so it’s only a guide.

Only adjust at small increments and see what’s best for you. Driving conditions may differ from Jersey so I’d expect any setup to need adjusting on the way. I keep a little 12v compressor and a spare pressure gauge (one may give false reading so can doublecheck) with me just incase, it will burn out the fuse before pumping a whole tyre up but great for adjustments on the go

Tyre pressures should only be checked with the tyres cold. I carry a 12 volt compressor but as an emergency inflater for the EAS. Never had to use it for the EAS or for adjusting the tyre pressure.

i check mine regularly. With 32”tyres few psi makes big difference can feel it if one side is down but they hold their pressure never need adjusting, still check for peace of mind

255/55/16 are to small for your car, should be 255/65/16 or 255/55/18. 235/70/16 are the same rolling radius but never fitted to the P38. Too narrow. If you are loading the car stick to the factory recommended pressures.

Thanks Wammers, just checked and my typo they are 255/55/18. I was oh no not more effort for the poor old girl! Lightly loaded though.

Smaller rolling radius would have lowered the gear ratios. You would be doing 55 mph with 60 indicated on 255/55/16s.;)
