Hi all wonder if someone could help.
I have 2000 model freelander td4 but have no real power for accelleration, I have to really make the engine work hard to join traffic flow etc.
I dont expect racing car performance but this is rubbish and it seems to be getting a bit worse, once the car is moving further accelleration is no problem it just seems to be at lower speeds with lower revs, And if it senses a hill then its embarrassing.
I was told it could be MAF sensor and just wondered if any of you have any experience of this.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Terry - it could be your MAF. Try unplugging it and see if it makes any difference. If it does then try cleaning it with a bit of choke cleaner (removed of course)...if that doesnt work have a word with Rover Ron.

Hello,

I had a MAF "problem" which seems to be the first thing which is mentioned if the power is down. The dealer put a new one in which might have made a slight differance until other things started to go wrong.

I ended up at an independant LR garage and very good they were too. They kept a MAF sensor on the shelf to fit in cases like this to see if the MAF sensor was what really was wrong. How about phoning up a local LR independant to see if they can do that for you? If it is faulty they can replace it, if not they could be the people to get you sorted. Just a thought.

Not trying to criticise, only trying to be helpful for the future, but it should be "déja vu", sorry.
 
Hi all and thanks for your replies.
I tried to remove it to test whether it improved but could not get it out and did not want to force it so I will probably go to land rover independant garage as I dont wish to use rip off main dealers.

You might need to use a screwdriver to press in the little clip nearest the air filter box
Also have a look at some previous threads on the subject Maf and loss of power im sure youll find em usefull and save you some dosh
 
So does this MAF sensor measure air flow? I understand it's a common problem.
If my V6 has a MAF it's in mint condition. Works a treat ;)
