Hi all,

I’m down to the block on a 200tdi rebuild project to go into my 88” series 3.

I’ve sourced a replacement crank after discovering a very, very spun bearing pretty much demolished my previous, beyond the point of bothering to get it ground.

I’ve also discovered some wear on the cam bearings and, to my understanding, replacing these is going to need line boring work. While I’m here, the camshaft looks alright but I lack the tooling to measure everything up. I had planned to grab a decent micrometer + dial bore gauge but given I’m likely looking at needing some machine work done, I’m wondering if it’s best to just send off the block (and head), now disassembled, to a shop to have it all measured up and see what needs doing from there?

Any recommendations for a machine shop in the beds/bucks area? I’m actually based near Milton Keynes. I don’t mind a bit of a drive if needed.

Thanks!

Ive just replaced camshaft bearings on my 200 with a generic tool from eBay, no need to get line bored as the bearings come pre-finished now.

However I would suggest looking at a previous thread I made on the topic with the bearing part number. I tried some from Turners which were extremely hard to work with and ended up replacing them again..

This is valuable info, thank you!

Those Glyco N165/4 bearings seem to be the way to go, but also seem to now be unobtanium (unless my google-fu is just failing me).

I don’t suppose you have a link to where you sourced them?

Apologies for the delayed response - was enjoying a long weekend with the family away from my troubles! Appreciate your help.

Hi mate try ivor Searle although in soham Cambridgeshire, they've done all my tdv6 machine work, one of the guys there is restoring a series himself

It looks like you're right! I got them from Parts in montion via their eBay shop, msyhe worth giving them a call?

After reading some positive things about the split turner shells, I’m thinking I’ll give them a punt as glyco seem NLA, at present at least.

I assume difficulty fitting them comes from a need to compress (but not too much) while pressing them in? I’m trying to conceptualise a solution for that - thinking something along the lines of a jubilee clip with some sort of protection for the shell, but wary of damaging them. Any ideas welcome!

Thanks! I still need to get everything measured up, and with the cost of reliable tooling to do so myself I’m thinking I’ll still need a machinist, so I appreciate this info.
