Hi all,

I’m down to the block on a 200tdi rebuild project to go into my 88” series 3.

I’ve sourced a replacement crank after discovering a very, very spun bearing pretty much demolished my previous, beyond the point of bothering to get it ground.

I’ve also discovered some wear on the cam bearings and, to my understanding, replacing these is going to need line boring work. While I’m here, the camshaft looks alright but I lack the tooling to measure everything up. I had planned to grab a decent micrometer + dial bore gauge but given I’m likely looking at needing some machine work done, I’m wondering if it’s best to just send off the block (and head), now disassembled, to a shop to have it all measured up and see what needs doing from there?

Any recommendations for a machine shop in the beds/bucks area? I’m actually based near Milton Keynes. I don’t mind a bit of a drive if needed.

Thanks!

Ive just replaced camshaft bearings on my 200 with a generic tool from eBay, no need to get line bored as the bearings come pre-finished now.

However I would suggest looking at a previous thread I made on the topic with the bearing part number. I tried some from Turners which were extremely hard to work with and ended up replacing them again..
