So, I have a nice WS hand saw for doing a little pruning when needed.

But think it may be useful to have a l'ill machete. Any recommendations??

Gerber do a decent machete. They also do a decent Kukri. Failing that an issue Army Machete is good value for money and holds its edge well.

I have read reviews of the gerber gator and it appears the latest ones have inferior steel compared to the earlier ones, as it did look good, and I have a gerber knife that has taken a lot of abuse and is still in good condition. Did you have a particular model in mind?

I have a machete tramontia brazil was used in papa new guinea nevwr rusts keeps its sharp for ages its about 40years old
