The diagnostic tool show the M.A.F reading in the expected range, the temperatures are fine, the tool alows you to drive the stepper motor directly through its range so ill be removing and see if its operating ok.

I suspect they gave me the wrong M.A.F with different connectors, now i have the diagnositic tool it shows me the old maf is working ok. i suspect the hunting is either the stepper motor or controller but ill test this out when i get the chance.

See post 10.

hmmm i havnt looked at post ten yet but i think i know what its going to say :)

and yes i know your probably right !

no il go and read it.

ok read post ten and its probably where ill end up , however as i dont have a unit to spare ill make sure everything else is ok .

used rover gauge today and it indicated that the engine temperature stays at about 80 degrees , from what i understand the temp should get to 95 dgrees before the ecu will take into acount the lamda sensors.

What should the engine running temp be ?

Let engine cool the check resistance of coolant thermistor then run the engine up and check resistance again. At normal operating temp, resistance should be something like 300 ohm, at zero degrees, resistance is 5.7kohm to 5.9kohm and at 20 degrees 2.4 - 2.6kohm.

I have an ecu you could try as substitute, I'm not about next week but the week after if you want to drop by we can swap over ecu and see what happens, could also put on exhaust gas analyser. Can check MAF with multimeter, same for throttle pot.

Hi guys , disappeared of the radar there for a while. Big changes at home meant I've not had time to do much on the disco , however things are a bit more settled so I've started getting the work done to get thus running properly, I've been running her on gas so ignored the petrol system for a while but I've gradually been working through some faults .

Finally worked out the dizzy vacuum diaphragm was knackered, so trying to get the timing set , makes a hunch difference to fuel economy .

Have set my timing to about 8 btdc got it running lovely on petrol , it misfires like a pig on gas !

Anyway thought I'd pop on and say hi
