Hi Just got a w reg Freelander hardback XEDI. Passed MOT ok, but engine running funny. The engine starts fine and runs well, but as it warms the revs go up and down ranging between 850 and 1100 rpm. New to diesels can anyone point me in the right direction.
i had this problem when i changed my pump, mine was overfuelling, then cutting back when the ecu realised, and so on. im not saying this is your problem, BUT it sure sounds like it. to sort it, i had to hammer mod the pump.
post a video of your rev counter
Hi
Thankyou for your swift responses. This is my first diesel so am very thin on knowledge, plaese bear with me. Gasfired Disco What is the ICV and where will it be lurking, the engine runs fine and pulls well.It does not appear to happen at 2000rpm only on tickover. ste220 Don't know enough yet to try this approach so thanks but will hold fire for present.
Just a note Oil,Oil filter, Diesel filter and air cleaner all changed 4 days ago and car passed MOT yesterday.
ICV is an idle control valve. the engine you have does not have one as such, it is controlled internally in the pump and ecu. the hunting is due to the pump arguing with the ecu if you will. the only way to alter idle fuelling is to either get the pump reset and built which is expensive, OR the hammer mod, which IS a bit of a bodge, BUT very effective. A lot of the rover diesel tuning boys up the fuelling( the opposite of what you require)
