.... and do so ASAP - cos if the ratios are different - one of them will fail.

More likely to be the centre diff that fails if there are different ratios front and back. It must be taking a real shellacking.
 
..and maybe find a better mechanic, and a handbook online (the Land Rover website good start?) Enjoy, A
 
Only thing diff lock does is connect front and rear and cut out the centre diff so that front or rear cannot spin independently. Only reason i can think of if when you select diff lock car slows and stops is front and rear diffs have different ratios. There really can't be any other reason for it.

Thanks all my Landys friend.Sharing my problem and giving me some ideas how to solve the problem.At least I've learn something new about my Lr.
 
I've told my hero ..the expert mech.of mine.what I have gain from you all especially what wammers said.He feel the problem and to solve the problem is the same method.jack and see the rotation.the gear ratios and start counting the teeth today.So what I have to do is wait for tomorrow finding.seem like he knows what to inspect.And I hopes no further damage found.Last but not least thank for all who share my problem. Hi everyone my beloved Lrd 110 fellow who gave me some advice and idea about the diff-lock problem.what really happened is the un professional mechanic installed the wrong front gearbox.By right he shouldn't installed the 47-10 gears.coz mine is 46-13.Anyway this is good for me for next time if the same problem happen.
