Don't agree with Hawaii about the prices. Certainly when I bought mine, the ones with lpg already fitted were exactly the same price as the non lpg'd cars. It certainly wasn't worth buying one and converting it yourself.

Someone I know was thinking of doing this but looking at prices, it seemed to do nothing for the value and took too long to pay for itself.

Remember that the engines can be crap whether they've got lpg fitted or not - unfortunately it tends to be luck of the draw.

If you could find one that has already been top hatted then it would be worth paying a premium for it as you would never have to worry about that bit of it again. (Should I say 'never'? 'probably' would be better...).

Richard at Blaze will supply and fit a multipoint system, test it, certify it and fill the tank for £2200, approx. ok, it needs 5 days there, but i am sure if you had a thor engine it would be worth it. but that seems an average price for a multi, other places i have contacted are the same price. only difference is how long they want the car for.

here in Venezuela, most new cars are only available in LPG. taxi drivers get it for free! but petrol is only £0.03p a litre here. :)

Got my p38 without LPG, gems engine, I had an OMVL single point system fitted at a cost of £1000. I've done 7k miles since fitting and it's been spot on. I've done long motorway runs and stuck in city traffic with no probs. I'm paranoid about headgaskets and dropped liners so I spend a lot of time checking levels. It don't use oil and only a titchy bit of coolant (normal v8) so it's OK. I was told that single point doesn't need flashlube, but I run a tank of petrol every 4-5 weeks to keep the injectors sweet. Performance is virtually the same, possibly slightly smoother on lpg, better mpg on petrol (it is twice the price tho!) by 2-3 mpg. Good luck

My RR last year was 2200 don't know if it was a bargain, felt it at the time, It already had been fitted with multipoint bigas system.

Enough for me.

I have since rebuilt the engine with tophats though.

GEMS is the earlier engine management, the plenum is rectangular with trumpets under it.

The MOTRONIC unit was later, plenum is shaped like a bunch of bananas. Design was to increase low down torque.

Cheers dexterdude. She runs like a dream, she had a few niggles which I have been able to repair. It was touch and go when the engine packed up. But I am so glad I did it. 390 miles to Cornwall in comfort cost about 90 quid in gas. But it was worth it, get out the other end and I didn't feel I had done it. So comfy. Kids entertained, wife happy no moaning.

One of the cheapest motors I have ever bought, spent a bit on her but, I can honestly say I have always wanted one and she lived up to my expectations (in the end).

I bought my 4.6 hse in 1999 and had a Tartarini kit fitted. Had some problems with back fires so took it elsewhere. I was told the wrong kit had been fitted.
A then had a simple IMPCO kit fitted and have never looked back. It starts, runs and stops on LPG. I NEVER put petrol in it. I occasionally run it for a couple of miles on petrol just to give the fuel pump and system a short run.
There has been no issues with it since 2000 and it has done about 80,000 miles on LPG - that's a lot of £s saved.
