Hi Ladies / Gents
I have a 98 4.6 (GEMS) which I'm currently debating converting to LPG. RPi still recommend the basic draw through system for this model Range Rover with a multipoint for the later Thor models. Has anyone here had experience with the draw through type on this model? Most LPG conversion companies recommend the sequential system which would seem to make sense as it has a sequential petrol injection system. RPi are adamant though that the draw through system is perfectly adequate. I asked them about backfire problems to which they of course replied their Adams (Tornado) chip conversion stops this (anyone with experience of this chip?).
So, I'm looking for advice / comments / opinions / etc to help me decide which way to go. I live in Blackburn, Lancs by the way so if anyone can recommend a LPG installer in this vicinity, it'd be appreciated.

Cheers and thanks very much.
Derek

I have the sequential injection fitted to my 4.6 gems, and i had a normal system fitted to a 3.9 classic i owned previously. I personally would go for the sequential on the p38 every time, i also know a couple of people that have the standard system fitted although it works ok they now are wishing that they had spent the extra few quid and had the sequential. The question that springs to mind is that why does every one with the exception of rpi recommend sequential, and how much extra are rpi making by selling you the kit plus chip. When i enquired about a new cam off them they tried to sell me the same chip to run my sequential set up properly, at the moment it runs perfectly fine without it.
All the best

Hi Mark
Thanks for the quick response. The sequential kit from RPi is around £975 I think but this is a DIY price and without a tank. The chip is about £750 so I would be looking at two grand plus by the time I've been to have it setup etc. They do come across well on the phone but someone on here did say they're all good salesmen. However, they have been going a long time with Rover V8s so it must count for something.
What make of system do you have? Was it fitted when you got the car / fitted yourself / have it fitted?
Cheers

Sequential all the way, why do want to chip it, it's a brick, if you search on here you'll find loads of threads on lpg

Hi
my system is a bi-gas sequential, its not the best system out but it was fitted when i got the car, it`s a diy system from Tinley Tech. They are very helpfull though they stopped on the phone all the time i was fitting a new sender in the tank and talked me through the wiring upgrade. I can`t remember what make was on my classic but that was originally my dads car and he had the system fitted then i bought the car from him later.
RPI have been around for quite some time and i did in the end have my new camshaft from them, paid the extra for next day delivery and got it 2 days later, but that was the couriers fault not theirs. I would still personally go for the sequential it gets a precise mixture of gas injected directly into the cylinder as the other system mixes it with the air just after the maf. The thing to remember is that as you say the standard systems are prone to backfiring and a number of people have had the air filter boxes destroyed, along with the MAF and a genuine MAF for a gems engine is £670.00 + vat. Thats something you dont get with sequential.
Good luck with your choice
All the best

if you have a choice go for the sequential and avoid rpi, they talk ****e! have a look around the internet and you will find that the seq is far more efficient over the old system. that said i have the old system on mine and it was fine, you need to keep plugs and leads in top condition tho and with the old system its best not to run it low on lpg as it is prone to backfire!

have a look at lpg forum and also this fella, his name is rossko on the lpg forum, he is pretty much the god of lpg on landies!!!

Thanks for all the info guys (and cheers eightinavee). I'll definitely go for the sequential. Just have to figure out from who now! The LPG forum is pretty good too Gav. The guy Rossko does seem to be the guru there.
Thanks again.
Regards

its worth taking your time and maybe even travelling for, you might even get a courtesy car if you bargain with em, if your travelling far from home you could make it a short break and the wife will love lpg forever!! lol!!

remember tho you will probably have to have the system retuned when its done a few miles so bear that in mind. also if possible ask the company to put the software on a disk for you and supply the diagnostics cablle AND a cd with the settings on, also settings when you have it re tuned, just incase you have to return it to original settings or if you have a problem that clears the setting etc. doesnt normally happen but at least you will have covered all bases!

I have a multipoint Tartarini lpg system fitted on my 4.6 gems, it was only fitted in July and had very little use, at this moment I am considering selling it if your interested?
John.
Ps. the tank is in the spare wheel space.
