In my other thread Ive been told (thanks Dr P) that its easy to stick an LPG kit on the 2.5. I could work out how to fit it but how do I cost one?
cheers

Hello!

Are you on about the 2.5 petrol or diesel? I have the 2.5 N/A petrol, bought the required kit for that engine from Tinley Tech for £500, took me probably 2 days in total to fit it, but i did a bit here and there over a few weeks.

I now get about 15mpg on LPG (so in affect about the same cost as roughly 26mpg.)

This is the website, Tinley Tech LPG Conversions - LPG conversion kit prices.
and the kit for the 4 cylinder, 2.5 N/A petrol is the Single-Point, Open-loop Induction System, Single Carburettor - currently £510. They also check over the instalation afterwards and sign it off for about £25.
Hope this helps!

Hi, yes, the petrol. Thanks for your response, thats really useful. A mate says itll take up too much room in the back but I guess thats the price you pay! Tinley is a couple of hours from me but thatd be a worthy trip.
Thanks again

Hi again, it does take up a bit of space, however I have still managed to easily get 2 inward facing seats so my defender is still a 5 seater. You can also get an upright donut tank which will give you a tiny bit more space but will cost a bit more.

See the below picture, it is a 90 litre tank that came included in the price for the kit but they do various sizes included for the same price.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Oh and when I say it is a 90 litre tank, it holds about 72 litres of LPG, but has a total volume of 90 litres.

Hi Mark
Thanks very much for posting the picture, thats really encouraging. Im hoping to land the rover some time in April so will take the LPG project further then
cheers

Fit elctronic ignition with LPG. For years i fought against it. The only idiot for not doing it, was me! Ordinary plugs is fine - why platinum sparks? If you must, i suppose, but not needed, if you have good ignition. Simon BBC did min new dizzy and electronic coil. From freezing it'll start form LPG which it never di before. Do it. I have the ACR kit too. Another worthwhile if pricey mod.

Ignore my reply saying about the platinum spark plugs, I have changed them to NGK plugs which have worked fine. The earlier ones were fine as well but just wanted to make sure. It has always been able to start from cold and I don't have electronic ignition! I have been smartening my conversion up bit by bit and it now is incredibly reliable, works fine, really pleased and I would recommend it to any people with the same 2.5 Petrol engine.
