Hi there,

As the title says, my Discovery 2 is making a loud whirring noise when cold. When idling it's fine, but it's quite loud when I depress the accelerator.

Is this something I need to worry about? ie. Is it going to cost me a load of money? I'm due to go on holiday in a few weeks and do not want to break down with 2 young kids in the car!

Any advice appreciate.

Thanks,

Dan

I had same problem on my 300tdi. Turned out to be knackered bearing on the alternator pulley.

I take it you have looked under the bonnet for any sign of hoses detached. I would imagine a detached intercooler hose would make for a large wooshing sound. Alternatively, does the Viscous fan feel nice and tight without much play?

Sorry to say, but unusual noises should always be worried about and always investigated. Else you could find that your problems rapidly escalate.

That would be the engine running - they haven't yet invented a dead silent engine. ;)

Seriously, we need a little more to work on than that.
