Hi
I have an automatic landrover discovery td5. I noticed a loud noise coming from the engine when I stopped, but went when I drove the noise wasn't there. I drove it home and on the way it just stopped. The engine is running but the car will not drive .
Does anyone have any idea what this is? Is it my gearbox, or someone mentioned it could be the drive plate.

My apologies if I have any of the wording wrong, but I am a woman and all I know is, how to drive the car...lol

Would appreciate any advice so I can send it to the garage, knowing that I wont be fobbed off with the wrong info.

Many thanks

Use your AA or RAC recovery card,
they will tell you what it is.

its either cream crackerd,
or just broke...

Seems like you all have a laugh at other peoples expense!!

Sorry I haven't got time for this...and sorry i'm not a Land Rover anorak!!!!!!!!!!!

could easily be broken drive plate ,it would give rattle the loud noise and no drive but could be other stuff as well ,wouldnt be difficult for someone to check ,shouldnt hurt gear box ,may damage box pump but thats easy enough fix

Thank you very much James Martin, you haven't chose to ridicule me like the other members.

I really appreciate your advice, and yes someone did mention the drive plate so I will get it checked out.

Many thanks once again.

yes we do have a laugh.
You havent got time for this??? why did you come on then?
Your first post is a request for help, no introduction no hello or anything.
are you like that on a date?? no chatting, meal a few drinks?? or straight down to it in the back of your disco??? nice

Topcat....I am new to this, cannot see where you have to give full introduction etc etc!!

Thought it was a Land Rover forum, didn't know I had to tell you my life story. And as for your last comment...you are obviously on this site for the wrong reasons...maybe lonely!!

Anyway, if you have no answer to my very first question...then keep your pervy thoughts to yourself!!

dont be so harsh on the woman, you dont know her yet....:D

ok, one of our landrover gods has spoken,
james has given advice,
but just what will you do with his words of wisdom.

Is there "someone" out there in essex boys country,
apart from me,
a nearly 65 year old,
who is caring enough to crawl under a strangers car looking for loud noises.

OK, we must be honest here also,
we are not all mobile mechanics,
with spare time on our hands,
to rush out with help either.

James has offered advice,
I offered advice,

I cannot offer anything else I`m afraid,
and by James`s signature area,
he cant either.

So, what to do.......

no pervy thoughts here.
i didnt have an answer to your question as i said some one would be along soon and they where.
All newbies get stick if their first post is merely asking advice, trust me you got away very lightly most peoples advice would have been to burn it.
There are many people on here who have much to offer in the way of sound advice, im sorry your having problems but hope you get it sorted out shortly and the advice james gave proves usefull.

yes it was people on here put in before they take out but that is respect is given wer respect is due. There is a great guy on here that knows everything to no about td5 auto's and more but what have you given this site warrant help no get your answer then disappear. The one thing this site is good at is help and info.To people that take time look round and respect the site

why are yu still here then?

To get as many people who are looking for help away from this joke of a forum.

The guy is worried about his car which has just broken and all you can do is insult him.
Maybe you should just help him out?
Or will that not make you feel all big and special inside?

this "joke" of a forum helps many folk every day and the op did get an answer as to what may be wrong, don't let the door hit you on the way out! stroppy bloody noobs again.:violent::mad:
