Morning (afternoon?) all - new member- but long standing landy owner. no indicators left or right on my 109 ex raf `82 series. - the hazards work OK, but no indicators. Have checked the LGW wire to the indicators stalk but no current - should this be the live feed to the indicators ? Fuses seem OK- where to next ?

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs. Is the light switch in the right position?
If you have a military type switch and it is in the "conv" position the indicators will not work.

brief flash of hope (no pun intended) but no ! Standard switchgear it would appear other then a `test` light switch fitted above the fog light switch on a small centre of the dash panel. (maybe for radio?). Steering column switches appear standard. I `guess` the power should come `from` the flasher to the indicator switch via the lgw wire which appears on the base of the left/ right turn stalk- to then go onto the left/ right turn wires ? Maybe barking up wrong tree....any thoughts ?

I think the "Test" light is something to do with the brae failure light, it apeared on various BL cars in the 70s.

Have you tried shorting out the flasher unit terminals to see if the indicators light up?

Identify the power in and power out (my manual isn't handy) Pull one of them off amend hold it against the other (with the ignition on and the indicator switch to one side) and see if the indicator lights up.

Be warned, this site is about to be attacked by loads of horrified auto electricians, with lots of posh talk of multi meters and other black arts.

even though the hazards work it could be the hazard switch which is causing the problem,i spent ages chasing the same fault on a car i had, that turned out to be the hazard switch.

Hmmm. thanks all thus far - rain/ wind hail I coped with, but then power went out as well so am now with red wine and roast in the house. given up for now. If any further advice is available, please offer, sysmptoms still are that the hazards work, but left and right indicators using the stalk do not. I will check it out the suggestions so far, plus any others that may come in, when home again on Tuesday night !

red wine calls......

if you have military conv swich in middle of dash it may be switched to the right possition but could have a fault like mine that affected brake lights remove switch from dash it will have a thick rubber cover on it gently remove and check wires behind it the brass fixings at base could be damaged or lose if they are ok you should not be able to move them if you can replace switch or tighten with soe carful soldering

i'd second the hazard switch being at fault, i found all switch contacts had corroded on one of my series 3's. it worked again once i took the switch apart and cleaned it all up.

Solved ! thanks all....and jusrt in case you wanted to know - yep the hazard switch. Without the diagram, I have concluded power is supplied to the hazard switch via the indicator unit. When the hazard switch is `in` - power SHOULD travel direct to and from the switch to the indicator unit- circuit being completed by selecting right or left turn. The hazard switch was `in` - but not connecting. Remedy ? creeping oil and energetic pumping in and out (far more fun doing similar elsewhere with baby oil in my view). Repeated operation of the hazard switch resulted in indicators coming back to life.....well right turn at least....left turn results in both sidelights flashing.....OK obvious one that - the earth U/S connection in the bullet connector inside the front wing/ engine bay. No i didnt locate that fault - bunged an extra earth wire in instead - thanks all.
