hi i have defender 110 with a 4 speed auto which i have owened for 5 years. Just lately i started to lose water not a lot about 1/2 to 1 litre per week.It didnt matter how far i went weather it was 10 miles or 100 miles i always seamed to lose the same amount. I found out that i had water in my oil and was told that my head gasket had gone. So i had it skimmed and put a new head gasket on and found out that i was still losing water and was told that it could be my water pump so i have changed that and its still losing water. any i dear

I'm thinkin that before your engine gets warm yer water is diverted over yer manifold to warm up yer heater quickly then when the waters hot enough it opens yer thermostat to keep the engine cool as normal. So that could be where yer waters goin & only losin the same amount of water no matter how far you go.

I would start er up and have a good look about under the bonnet whilst she warms up. Ya might even want to turn her orf after 5 mins and listen.

Or I could be barkin up the wrong tree:confused:

Or just barkin:D :D

yes you could be right, the temp gage goes up quiet high in about 10 mins but dose not go into the red or over heat, so how would i cure the water problem

it has always ran a bit high and i have put a new themostat in when i did the head gasket

all the hoses are ok
Radiator ok
Heater matrix, not sure how to check
pressure cap leakin dont know will buy a new one

thankyou
