Whats the best way to go about it?
I got told I need:
+2 inch springs all round, heavy duty on the front and soft/medium on the rear
+5 Terrafirma long travel shocks all round
3 degree castor correction arms
Double cranked trailing arms
Heavy duty steering bars
Challenge rear cones
Heavy duty turret rings
Front cones
Front retainers
Heavy duty turrets
Full polybush kit
Extended brake lines
This true?
Steven.
a standard disco is already very good at what it's designed for...offroading...!!!
you can fit 235/70/16 (29" diameter) on a standard disco without the tyres fouling on the bodywork. By fitting 2" lift, you may now fit either 235/85/16 or 265/75/16 (32" diameter) with some bodywork trimming. ----- So effectively, you gain 1.5" of lift under axle, with the bigger tyres.
+5" long travel shocks is cool tho by the sound of it, which will give you improved articulation. BUT, how often will you need that articulation? And with the improved articulation, you'll need extended brake hoses, dislocation cones, cranked arms etc etc......
You will need to ask yourself the question on why you need them. Would that extra bit (and I do mean a bit...not a lot) of extra articulation is worth spending 1,500 pounds on (or more)? And due to the change in the suspension geometry, a few components will start to fail prematurely, such as UJ, bushes etc etc. Are you able to repair them yourself?
If you are indeed planing to do green laning, then all these 'extra' bits don't really matter, as the standard disco is more than capable for it. And frankly, if the standard disco couldn't make any of those lanes....most probably the lane should not have been driven at all.
What Redhand/pikey stated is correct.....put on the 2" spring block and see how it goes, before shelling out for unnecessary accesories..
Trewey........where was your thread showing all the repair work required after a suspension lift....can't seem to find it...!!!
