If it's Pre 59 which it will be as a series 1 it does not need an MOT but unless your an expert it is always worth having someone else check it, I may also have gone green with envy you luck sod you.

To be MOT exempt, it must be registered before Jan 1st 1960 ...
There was a rumour of 30-year old vehicles being MOT exempt soon due to EU legislation, but as the Brexit vote shows, we may change some of the European Laws ...

Cracking find you can be sure to have some fun doing that up, I'm in th middle of a similar rebuild of a Minerva which is basically a series 1 with a steel body and sloping wings.
