just got to clean up inner sill b pillar and anything else so i've got good clean metal to weld to...

how can a tester fail it if its covered with a plastic cover ? not really structural anyway

yes but a mot tester IS NOT ALLOWED TO REMOVE any body trim/mouldins to check behind.
the critiriea states if it is not visible he may not remove covers and must give the benefit of doubt and pass and advise that item can not be checked due to the fitment of sill covers..etc same rule applies to wheel nuts/bolts when hub caps that cover them are fitted

correct!

how so, the body mounts are there seatbelt mounts, seats so deffo structural ;)
if the visible body mounts are in sound condition or have light surface corrosion which does not significantly weaken them you can pass and advise but there are "prescribed areas" ie seat belt mounts suspension mounts etc that are not allowed to have corrosion within a 30cm area of them in any direction .
so if you can visualise a globe 30cm in size around the mont there must be no severe corrosoin in that area

Looking at pic 1 I would think the rot would be quite apparent on the underside of the sill? although Ive not seen a disco with the ill covers on for a while so couldn't be sure how much of the metal work would be seen?

JA3llis, you are correct but lookin at the pics as a tester i'd want to fail that, and as a vehicle presenter i'd want it failed

Now now children.....just wish I'd took a picture of the bottom of the dsill, cornflakes box taped in place covered in body filler then waxoyled.will post some pictures of the remnants tomorrow......didnt get to do any work done today due to the weather, have since acquired a big tarp so I'll be cracking on tomorrow.
