Well I did the test and it looks ok to me, providing I haven't done anything wrong. I have posted a video and my findings on the VCU sticky thread. Took about 35 seconds to go from 45 degrees to 0, using a 6kg weight at 1.2m. Hoping that means my VCU is ok.

That time shows the VCU is fine. ;)
 
I wouldn't drive it to far with the mismatch spare though.

I'm not exactly sure, but my feeling is the front diff will only eliminate 1/2 of any difference in its size to the new one on the other side.

Nah, the car is parked on the drive and isn't going anywhere until I get the proper tyre back on. Was only moving it earlier so I could spin it round to do the vcu test. The proper tyre will be back on tomorrow night.
 
Got the wheel back yesterday, got my mechanic neighbour to pick it up and fit it so he could check the wheel and the wheel arch etc for damage, and thankfully everything is ok. Drove her into work this morning and drives absolutely fine. Been so lucky with this as the outcome could have been a hell of a lot worse.

That's great,glad it didn't get anymore expensive and that you came away healthy,that's the main thing and thanks for letting us know the outcome lots of people don't bother
