ok, so my little bro smashed up his nice car yesterday, wrote it off:doh:. he was lucky, no injuries, and no other cars involved. The bill turned up as usual, and were happy he was not at fault, genuine accident, bad bit of road, happens alot there.
But now he gonna ruin his insurance, cos it'll go up hugely if he tells them. He can scrap the car and get a banger to survive for now, so potentially, no one will loose out. so, does he tell the insurance? If he doesn't, what'll happen? What do you think?

What was the value of his car befor e he wrote it off? What's his excess?

If he doesn't tell the insurance company about the accident, and they later find out. They will cancel his policy and charge an even bigger premium. Also, if he tries to make another claim on his policy & they find out about the first accident, they won't pay out .

it was a golf valued at £1000. His excess is £250. He is only third party fire & theft. Cheers.

I wouldn't make a claim. It's up to him if he wants to tell the insurance co about what happened. If he wants to stay 100% legit he could tell em that he did have an accident but it was a nil value accident as no money was required to fix the vehicle.

I'd scrap it they aint paying out so what it to do with them,if he does I bet it will put his premium up next time, third party wont pay him anything anyhow.........

cut it up and tell them nothing..... theres a box to tick on the v5 to tell dvla youve scrapped it.
