going to line the roof in the back of my 90, thinking of using something like this Car Carpet BLACK Luxury Pile Carpet for trimming - Gel Backing 2.03 x 1.60m. | eBay

but I want to do it properly first time, i.e. not have it sagging down and getting in my way after a week because it's been stuck up wrong. what's the best way to put it up? do i need to sand or clean the metal or anything? i've seen the high temp spray adhesives but wasn't sure if (or how) they'd work

any help and or pics from someone who's done similar would be appreciated, thanks

Metal needs to be clean and dry.

I'd wipe it over with meths, and then either leave an electric fan heater in the tub for a while or go over the roof with a hot air gun (or hairdryer)

High temp spray essential or carpet will fall off in the summer

I used this to fix camping foam mates to my roof - just sprayed it onto the roof (cover the tub/seat backs with dust sheets as it can be a little messy), pushed on the mats (it grabs immediately) and then trimmed with a sharp knife

If you get it wrong, within 10 mins or so you can pull the mats back off, spray a little more and reposition. but better to get it right first time!

Using that carpet, just pull it tight as you apply and push firmly home

Trimfix works a treat , i used it to put carpet in mine before the summer and you would have to work hard to get it of . YOU must clean the surface first .

check the temp the glue can be sprayed/worked may be to cold this time of year

I lined my 88" Series roof with some left over foam backed household carpet years ago intending to fit the genuine headlining on afterwards... so that the carpet would be insulation. As I was rebuilding , I had the roof off and turned upside down in the garage. First I cut the carpet to size and laid it inside the upturned roof to ensure it was a good fit, then poured Bostic impact adhesive from a bit tin on the roof panel and spread it out with a glue comb.... left it to go tacky and carefully placed the carpet in and firm it down all over. The carpet was nylon with very short pile and was patterned in various shades of brown and biege. I only did the rear part of the roof that is above the tub.... did not do the area over the front seats. Then I fitted a tropical roof panel complete with vents. Only problem was that in drilling a hole through the carpet to take one of the screws for the vent surrounds, the drill caught up a thread of the carpet and pull 3 or 4 inches of thread out of the carpet. Anyway, I never did get around to buying the rear headlining and the carpet looked quite good. It never came unstuck or sagged or anything and still looked good when I broke the Landy and sold the roof about ten years after. I'd be interested to know if the guy who bought the roof from me reads this note.
