Exactly my philosophy. The Essex was already fitted when we bought the Landy 29 years ago, never felt the need to change it.
it does sound good, but not as good as a V8 !
Try and keep up, Kev!
Great, thanks mate... makes since and I've just dug the invoice out and it was replaced by a Diesel specialist in 2004 and probably only done a few thousand miles since then... It does start on the button.
I've got some Engine Sound proofing arrived now so I'll get too quietening it down soon.
Overdrives have gone off the scale too - £800 now or more... maybe worth a Wanted ad here... is the forum on here good for Wanted ads?

Not wishing to knock your setup. I'm sure it is great. But I never really understood the Essex V6 swap. Heavier and less power than an RV8 and not a Rover engine... I guess if you had one to use for free/cheap. Then ok. And they can sound nice. But I'd have thought somewhat rare and an oddity to want to swap one in today in 2022.
Just to throw a spanner in your works, what about a Ford V6 Essex ?
I have one in mine and I like it.
Tbh id spend the cash & get an overdrive. If its not broke dont fix it.
Unless you want to throw some cash about & have a winter engine changing project my mate has
a bmw estate with a m57 engine in it, not a hard conversion either.
I think that the Essex is about 130 bhp.
I've seen my Speedo hit 90 mph !!!
They are a good engine. If you have driven a 3 Litre Capri or Granada, you will be familiar with them.So - to bring this post up to date, thanks for all the advice, I ummed and arred then made a decision...
I listed the Landie on eBay at get my money back pricing, you might have seen it?
But yesterday an old couple of local electricians came to my house to fix some old wiring issues - anyway Pete (one of them) saw my Landie, and showed me pictures of his Series 1 located close by which he'd fitted with a 3.0 V6 Ford.. the Essex conversion.
So, I looked on eBay last night, searched for 3.0 Ford - and BOOM up came an Essex Engine complete with a full Steve Parker Conversion kit - Bloody ebay, it will be the death of me!
So I bid him £400 got it accepted for everything and then ended my listing of the Landie - no one was quick enough! despite 100s of views and 30 odd watchers...
Here we go - spoke to the seller, who is restoring a Series 2 which this ran fine in and I'm arranging collection as I type!
I'll keep you informed of how this goes on this thread... not even sure what exact Engine/Power it is yet but half the price of a Series Petrol and a halfway house to a 3.5 V8... thoughts?

The V6 engine mounts are in a different position compared with the standard LR mounts.
Steve Parker used to have the fitting instructions on their web site but I don't see them anymore.
It might be worth your while to e-mail them and see if they still have them somewhere and they could send them to you.
