The Essex was already fitted when we bought the Landy 29 years ago, never felt the need to change it.
it does sound good, but not as good as a V8 !
Exactly my philosophy.
If you have something that runs, why spend loads of money and time changing engines.
Just drive it, that is what they are for.

Great, thanks mate... makes since and I've just dug the invoice out and it was replaced by a Diesel specialist in 2004 and probably only done a few thousand miles since then... It does start on the button.
I've got some Engine Sound proofing arrived now so I'll get too quietening it down soon.

Overdrives have gone off the scale too - £800 now or more... maybe worth a Wanted ad here... is the forum on here good for Wanted ads?

Tbh id spend the cash & get an overdrive. If its not broke dont fix it. :)
Unless you want to throw some cash about & have a winter engine changing project my mate has
a bmw estate with a m57 engine in it, not a hard conversion either. :D

Ive had a few speed/classic boats with the Essex engines in them the sound nice & go very well.
I must look for the pics.

So - to bring this post up to date, thanks for all the advice, I ummed and arred then made a decision...

I listed the Landie on eBay at get my money back pricing, you might have seen it?
But yesterday an old couple of local electricians came to my house to fix some old wiring issues - anyway Pete (one of them) saw my Landie, and showed me pictures of his Series 1 located close by which he'd fitted with a 3.0 V6 Ford.. the Essex conversion.

So, I looked on eBay last night, searched for 3.0 Ford - and BOOM up came an Essex Engine complete with a full Steve Parker Conversion kit - Bloody ebay, it will be the death of me!
So I bid him £400 got it accepted for everything and then ended my listing of the Landie - no one was quick enough! despite 100s of views and 30 odd watchers...

Here we go - spoke to the seller, who is restoring a Series 2 which this ran fine in and I'm arranging collection as I type!
I'll keep you informed of how this goes on this thread... not even sure what exact Engine/Power it is yet but half the price of a Series Petrol and a halfway house to a 3.5 V8... thoughts?

Not wishing to knock your setup. I'm sure it is great. But I never really understood the Essex V6 swap. Heavier and less power than an RV8 and not a Rover engine... I guess if you had one to use for free/cheap. Then ok. And they can sound nice. But I'd have thought somewhat rare and an oddity to want to swap one in today in 2022.

Yep, and that's exactly what I'm planning LOL!

Full Engine with Conversion kit cheaper than an Overdrive - the worlds gone mad!

They are a good engine. If you have driven a 3 Litre Capri or Granada, you will be familiar with them.
Also fitted in Reliant Scimitars.
The one known weakness is the timing gears, which are made of a fibre material with a steel rim round the outside.
It is quite likely that the timing gears have already been changed for steel ones, but if not, it is worth doing.

So, Engine arrived today on a Pallet complete with Steve Parker conversion kit dated 1985.
Block number seems to be Ford 722F6015BA - need to decode - been looking online but not sure of BHP or origin....

Would anyone know if the Engine mounts will still need moving, as my Landie already has the 2.5D Ford Engine, would they have been moved for that?

Couple of photos attached.

V6 Engine Number.jpg

The V6 engine mounts are in a different position compared with the standard LR mounts.
Steve Parker used to have the fitting instructions on their web site but I don't see them anymore.
It might be worth your while to e-mail them and see if they still have them somewhere and they could send them to you.

The number you have posted is the engine type, it's a 3 ltr Capri engine.
The engine number is stamped on the flat surface at the back of the engine block above the flywheel.

Thanks Galladog - I've done that and they emailed me a scan of the instructions for a £5 PayPal payment - bargain - they date from 1985!
You are also right re Engine mounts, that's the first thing covered - re-weld re-locate Engine mounts...

I've contacted Steve Parker and they don't do the conversions or kits any more just a few parts like Exhausts.
Spoke to them this morning and they want a healthy sum to do the conversion, so just weighing up options - does anyone know or have contacts with an out of work Mechanic or Landie enthusiast who would like to fit it for me for a price?

I'm up in the NorthWest - Manchester South location so could drive the Landie with the Pallet in the back if so...
Let me know or connect me with anyone Garage or Independent or Private that might be interested in doing the job?
