lights gard on or off?

Like all these things it comes down to personal preference. I bought mine with guards on, decided to take them off, ended up with unsightly holes, tried naff looking sealing grommets, two weeks later smashed n/s headlamp. IMO, if you have 'em, keep 'em, otherwise you'll be looking at the bloody holes for the rest of your days.
 
I bought mine with both on but I took the front light guards off the other day and it looks miles better, even with the bull bar still on. I'm letting some easing oil sink in to the fixing bolts on the bull bar though coz that's coming off next week! HID's next!


Just be aware that, because of the weird switching method on the P38, it's NOT a straightforward swap to fit HIDs. I tried a couple of after-market kits and 'guaranteed' bulb failure solutions but ended up building my own wiring loom and still haven't overcome all of the issues; slow start up, bulb failure warnings, other warning lights coming up on the dash when the headlights are switched on, etc. I'm not being cheeky, I don't know your abilities, but I would now suggest to anyone that they invest in some of the uprated, imitation HID bulbs available rather than taking the chance of damaging their BECM.

Just a side thought. When I had a bull bar (a few years back) most insurance companies considered it a modification. Didn't cost extra, but a lot of hassle in getting quotes while they thought about it.

Eventually rusted and I threw it away, at which point I took of the light guards and concluded the Rangie looked better without.
 
It would appear that fitting all metal bull bars to any vehicle has been illegal since 2007. Subject to a European directive dated 2005. It is apparently illegal to manufacture or offer for sale such an item. Plastic bull bars (which are as useful as tits on a Mars bar) are however still legal and can be retro fitted.
 
What about the metal ones covered in rubber like the one in my avatar
Also what if there fitted before 2007 and how would they prove it was/wasent fitted before 2007! like mine is a 98 car that for anyone knows could have had the bars on since new

Think the metal in your plastic/rubber bull bar will be something the consistency of and about the same tensile strength of cheese. When i had a bump in my old Disco fitted with a plastic coated proper metal bull bar the insurance company refused to fit a new replacement metal one, it had to have a plastic/rubber one. The plastic rubber ones like yours are legal. Metal ones are not. It's about pedestrian safety, so if you gave one a tup with an all metal one your insurance company could refuse to pay damages if they got snotty. I don't have one so really don't give a toss. But those who insist on having metal ones might like to familiarise themselves with the regulations or they may well have to sell their house to pay damages to some tosser who walked into their path. Don't forget that the ped is seldom blamed for a bump. It's always down to the evil driver.

if they are any thing like the idiots who thin its funny to walk in the road around my way they deserve to ge done by a metal one. im thinking of putting spikes on front of mine lol. I now aim, for the little ****s:violent::violent::violent:
 
I took the light guards off my 2001 as I think it looks much cleaner without.

However I was left with paint damage and the small holes.

I sold the light guards and fittings on ebay for 100+ and there were lots of bidders, so these are still popular

gotta say...........only Land Rover would come up with a trim accessory where you drill into the body panels on a luxury vehicle, well thought out......
